Definitions
- the invention relates to a container according to the preamble of patent claim 1 and a method for its production according to the preamble of patent claim 6.
- the invention relates to containers for foodstuffs such as dairy products.
- the known cups have a cup wall which is reinforced in the area of the support surface of a closure film and in particular has a so-called sealing edge which projects outwards.
- a sealing edge is typically made of plastic like the cup wall and has, for example, a width of approximately 2 mm to 4 mm and a thickness of 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm.
- the cup wall usually has a wall thickness of 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm.
- the known cups are closed with an aluminum plate which is coated with an adhesive on its side facing the cup.
- a sealing wax is used as the adhesive, which consists of a plastic lacquer with a low melting point or alternatively of one Hot glue exists.
- a plastic film can also be used as the sealing film.
- the cups known for example from EP 0 252 792 A1 and the known method have the disadvantage that the cups must necessarily have the aforementioned sealing edge.
- the cost of the material of the sealing edge increases the cost of the cup. If the cup is manufactured using spraying technology, the production time also increases compared to a cup without a sealing rim. In addition, there is the cost of the area of the sealing film which is provided in order to cover the sealing edge entirely.
- the seal edge also increases the volume and the weight of a cup, the weight of the aforementioned surface of the sealing film also contributing to completely covering the seal edge. Increasing the volume and weight of a cup also increases transportation costs.
- Another disadvantage of the known cups is that due to the relatively large amount of material for cups and sealing film, increased expenses for disposal are to be incurred.
- Another disadvantage of the known cups is that in many cases the sealing film is difficult or uneven to remove from the cup, since the film adheres differently to the cup.
- Such a sealing rim also proves not to be mouth-sized, so that cups with such a sealing rim cannot be used as drinking vessels without further notice.
- Thermal energy also melts part of the cup wall material, which deposits on the inside and outside of the cup.
- the cup wall material (brow) cooled outside the cup can lead to injuries even if the shape is barely visible.
- Containers with a relatively large wall thickness (greater than 3 mm) with a sealed film membrane (“tamper-evident closure”) and a screw or slip lid are also known.
- a tamper-evident seal serves to ensure that the contents of the container cannot be changed after it has been originally filled and the tamper-evident seal has been applied, and can be aroma-tight.
- These containers e.g. are known from DE 9108868.2, for example medicine (tablet) bottles do not have a sealing rim due to their large wall thickness and the mechanical stability associated therewith.
- the screw or slip lid forms a secondary lock.
- Containers or containers and methods for their production are also known from:
- the invention is based on the technical problem of creating a container and a method for its production, the use of material for the cup being minimized.
- the invention has a number of advantages.
- the container according to the invention is on the one hand tightly closable and on the other hand is mouth-shaped and is therefore also suitable as a drinking vessel.
- the material saving is further increased by openings in the container wall which serve to hold molten container wall material.
- the sealing film adheres evenly to the container according to the invention and can thus be easily removed from the container by the end user without remnants of the sealing film sticking to the container.
- the melted container wall material in the production according to the invention reaches openings provided for this purpose in the container wall, so that contact of the melted container material (plastic) with air is avoided. This also avoids the formation of sharp eyebrows (solidified plastic residues) and injuries to the persons handling the containers, for example when selling the cups and when consuming the container filling. - 6 -
- FIG. 4 u. 5 two configurations of a container according to the invention, likewise before and after connection with a sealing film;
- the cup-shaped containers according to the prior art which are shown in FIGS. 1 to 3, have in common that they have a sealing edge 7 in the region of the contact surface 10 of the closure film 2.
- This sealing edge 7 is formed in one piece with the container wall 9.
- the cups shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 have in common that the sealing film is pressed with a defined pressure P and after heating against the sealing edge by a stamp or sealing head 1.
- the area of the sealing edge is related to the exertable pressure P.
- the smaller the sealing edge the smaller the exertable pressure P. Small pressures, however, lead to poor, irregular heat transfer from the sealing head to the film and from there to the edge of the container, with sharp brows outside the container.
- FIG. 2 shows a sealing head 1 with a comb 4.
- This comb leaves a groove 8 on the sealing film 2 and effects only a partial sealing on the sealing edge.
- the actual connection between the sealing film and the sealing edge is thus limited to a relatively small area. Nevertheless, even with this arrangement, eyebrows 6 and sealed sealing wax residues are formed inside the container and also outside the container.
- Fig. 3 shows a container with a sealing edge, a comb 5 being arranged on the sealing edge.
- brows 6 are again formed, which, like sealed sealing wax residues, form both on the outside and on the container.
- FIG. 4 shows a first embodiment of a container according to the invention, of which only a section through a lateral container wall 9 is shown.
- the container wall 9 with a wall thickness w at least one opening 13, preferably two openings (depressions) 11 or 12 and 13, are provided in its upper region, that is to say in the region of the later contact surface 10 (FIG. 4b) for the closure film 2.
- the wall thickness w is preferably at most 3 to 4 mm wide, in particular the wall thickness is in the range from 0.5 to 1.5 mm.
- these openings are designed as grooves 12, 13.
- the grooves are open in the direction of the sealing film to be applied and take up eyebrows 6, possibly also at least part of the sealed sealing wax.
- the grooves extend over the entire container wall in its upper region, that is, longitudinally to the container wall.
- the container wall is designed as a rib-shaped, protruding projection 16, FIG. 4a.
- the sealing film 2 is pressed against the container wall 9, the material of the container wall projection is melted away by a distance S.
- the melting process can be triggered by the heating of the sealing film 2 and the heat transferred to the container wall.
- the sealing wax adhering to the underside of the sealing film is liquefied, the liquid sealing wax pressing the liquid plastic of the container wall into the grooves.
- the brows 6 are formed, which flow into the two grooves 12, 13 and solidify there.
- the sealing film 2 is pressed against the container wall 9 by a predetermined distance S.
- the distance S is chosen in particular as a function of the wall thickness w of the container wall.
- the grooves 12, 13 also receive at least part of the sealing lacquer, which is heated when the sealing film and the container wall are connected, so that, if necessary, only a small amount of the sealed seal paint remains inside the container or settles on the outside of the container.
- This configuration of the container wall in the area of the support surface also ensures that the melted brows are also connected to the grooves on their side facing the sealing film in the opening area of the grooves.
- the area of the connection between the container wall and the sealing film is thus expanded over the cross section of the projection 16 and the connection is strengthened.
- the contact surface 10 or melting zone is of the same width over the entire circumference of the container wall, whereby a uniformly strong connection between the film and the container wall is achieved.
- FIG. 5 shows a further embodiment of the container according to the invention, the opening in the container wall in the region of the later support surface being formed by bevels 14, 15.
- the protrusion 16 between the bevels 14 and 15 is partially melted, as in the embodiment shown in FIG. 4, when the sealing film and the container wall are connected, so that brow 6 is again formed. These brows 6 are taken up by the bevels.
- the containers according to the invention therefore do not have a specially designed sealing edge, rather the sealing film lies directly on the container wall, which has the same cross-section in the area of the support surface as in a region adjoining it downwards or as in the rest of the container wall.
- the width of the support surface is therefore at most equal to the wall thickness w of the container wall.
- the container wall usually consists of plastic, while the sealing film usually consists of aluminum or plastic.
- the sealing film adheres uniformly to the wall of the container.
- the majority of the sealing wax 3 is torn away by tearing off the sealing film 2.
- the container wall 9 has exactly one depression 1 in the area of the bearing surface 10.
- the parts of the container wall adjoining the recess 11 are then designed such that the flow of the melt of the container wall material and / or the flow of the material 3 connecting the sealing film 2 and the container wall 9 is conveyed into the recess 11.
- the parts of the container wall adjoining the depression are designed to be inclined in the direction of the depression.
- the wall thickness w of the container wall is preferably in the range of 0.5-1.5 mm.
- the projection 16 (FIGS. 4, 5, 6), which is at least partially melted off, has a width of, for example, 0.3 mm and a height of 0.2 mm.
- the route S ie the so-called seal path, is the distance between the position of the sealing head shown in FIG. 6a and the upper horizontal edge of the stop a and corresponds approximately to half the height of this projection. It is approximately 0.1 mm.
- the pressure P is not relevant in the context of the present invention, since the sealing head is pressed fully onto a stop a (FIG. 6).
- a cup according to the invention is produced by first positioning the closure film (2) on the container wall in the region of a support surface.
- the container wall has no sealing edge, rather the container wall in the area of the bearing surface has the same wall thickness w as in the area of the container wall adjoining it downwards.
- the container has the shape shown in Figures 4-6 and is manufactured in particular by injection molding.
- the sealing film is heated to a predetermined temperature at least in the area of the support surface and then the sealing film heated to the predetermined temperature is pressed against the container wall.
- the sealing film according to the invention is pressed onto the container wall by a predetermined distance S after it has been positioned on the contact surface.
- the sealing head 1 is moved the distance S to the stop a, the heated sealing film 2 presses on the projection 16, which partially melts.
- the sealing wax is pushed away to the left and right in the region of the projection 16 (FIG. 6).
- the heated sealing wax in turn presses the melted container wall material into the openings (11, 12, 13, 14, 15).
- the grooves are about 0.1 mm deep and about 0.1 mm wide.
- the predefined distance S is chosen in particular as a function of the wall thickness w of the container wall in the area of the support surface.
- Typical values for the specified temperature of the sealing head or of the sealing film contacted by the sealing head is approximately 150-180 ° C. if the container wall made of polystyrene (PS) is used. If the container wall is made of polypropylene (PP), the sealing head temperature or the temperature to which the sealing film is heated is approximately 200 ° C. It can also be provided that when using polypropylene the sealing head is pressed a little longer onto the sealing film or the container wall.
- the sealing film typically consists of aluminum blanks which have an approximately 0.05 mm thick sealing wax layer on their side facing the container.
- the aluminum foil itself is approx. 0.2 mm thick.
- the invention is generally applicable to containers which can be releasably covered with a sealing film.
- a preferred area of application is yogurt cups, containers for other dairy products and other foodstuffs.
- the invention is also applicable to containers for cosmetics and other products.
