Abstract

Des phases de cristaux liquides contiennent deux constituants A et B, contenant à leur tour un ou plusieurs composés individuels. Le constituant A présente une anisotropie diélectrique nettement négative et confère à la phase de cristaux liquides une anisotropie diélectrique -0,3. Le constituant B présente une nématicité prononcée et une viscosité ne dépassant pas 30 mPa.s à 20° C. Le cas échéant, un constituant C avec une température élevée de clarification égale à au moins 150° C est ajouté afin d'induire dans la phase de cristaux liquides une température de clarification d'au moins 60°. Un constituant supplémentaire D présente une anisotropie diélectrique positive très faible et une anisotropie optique d'au moins 0,2. Afin d'obtenir des temps de commutation particulièrement courts, les constituants A peuvent également être remplacés totalement ou en partie par des composés individuels appropriés du constituant D ayant une anisotropie diélectrique négative prononcée. Ces phases de cristaux liquides conviennent pour des éléments électro-optiques d'affichage fondés sur l'effet de biréfringence électriquement induite (effet ECB).
