1410161 Liquid crystal compositions PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Jan 1974 [12 Jan 1973] 00305/74 Heading C4X [Also in Divisions H3- H5] A nematic liquid crystal composition comprises a mixture of p-methylphenyl-p-n-butylbenzoate; p-n-butylphenyl-p-methoxybenzoate; p - n - butylphenyl - p - (p - n - butylbenzoyloxy)-benzoate; and p-n-butylphenyl-p-(p-methoxybenzoyloxy)benzoate. A second, ternary, nematic composition comprises a mixture of benzylidene-p-cyanoanilines substituted in the p<SP>1</SP> position with n-butoxy-; n-hexoxy-; and nheptylcarboxyloxy-groups respectively. Both mixtures have a dielectric anisotropy which is positive below a critical frequency and then becomes negative, and find use in electro-optic display devices (see Divisions H3-H5).
