DISH. No, 9,877, Patented April 3, 1877.
' 3 i /Kw? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD BOOTE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR DlSHES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,877, dated April 3, 1877; application filed March 10, 1877. [Term of Patent 31} years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD BOOTE, of New York city, county and State of New York, have originated and designed the form and ornamentation of dishes and their covers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration, making part of the specification.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made.
A represents the dish, and B the cover. The ornamentation of the dish consists in relieving the plain surface with two ornamental handles, from both ends of which scrolls extend outward on the plain surface. The ornamention of thecover consists also in relieving the plain surface with a handle placed on the top, from the ends of which scrolls extend outward on the plain surface. Each of the handles is tormed by two united solid cylindrical bodies, ornamented on their faces with a four-leaved clover. From the ends of the cylindrical bodies extend downward to the dish curved supports, which are connected at their base by a base-piece resting on the body of the dish or cover. To the upper portion of the curved supports are attached cylindrical ornaments. From the outer ends of the base of the curved supports extend the raised scrolls in form of ribbons or hands, crossing each other at different points and at different angles, and ornamented with two rosettes.
i am aware that plain dishes have been made with ornamental handles, and I therefore do not claim them, broadly. The distinctive characterot' my design is found in the configuration and ornamentation of the handles and the scrolls.
What I claim as my invention is- The design for the handles of covered dishes, consisting of the two circular centrally-united center-pieces, provided with outer scrolls, and having the raised quarterfoil upon their sides, and connected with the body of the dish by curved supports, at the base of which are formed raised crossed ribbon scrolls, ornamented with rosettes formed in relief upon the body of the dish, substantially as shown and described.
