No 9 318 Patented May 30,1876.
U NiTED STATES PATENT OFFICE JAMES A. MALONEY, OF GEORGETOWN, DISTRICT'OF COLUMBIA.
DESIGN FOR A FAN.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,3 [8. dated May 30, 1876; application filed May 22, 1876. [Term of Patent 3% years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES A. MALONEY, of Georgetown, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and original Design for a Fan, of which the following is a specification:
The design is fully represented in the accompanying drawing, to which reference is made.
Theobverse side, Figure 1, is a representation of the flag of the thirteen original colonies of the United States, having the field represented by the crosses of St. George and St. Andrew, and stripes running downward from it. The reverse side, Fig. 2, is a representation of the present fiag of the United States, having the field represented by a group of stars arranged at the dpper portion, and the stripes running downward therefrom.
The design may be printed, painted, or otherwise formed upon the paper or other suitable material that forms one or both sides of the fan.
I prefer to place the number 1776 on the obverse side of the fan, and 1876 on the reverse; but these form no part of the invention, and are not claimed as such.
I claim as my invention- 1. The design for a fan, having on the 0bverse side a representation of the flag of the thirteen original colonies of the United States, substantially as described, and shown in the aecompanyin g drawing.
2. The design for a fan, having on the obverse side the representation of the flag of the thirteen original colonies of the United States, and on the reverse side the representa' tion of the present flag of the United States, having the group of stars arranged at the upper portion thereof, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying draw- JAMES A. MALONEY. Witnesses:
