UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DE \VATT PEPPER, OF NEW MILFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A DlVAN-FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 36,205, dated January 27, 1903.
Application filed December 26, 1902- Serial No. 136,753. Term of patent 35 years.
To all whont it may concern:
Be it known thatI, DE WATT PEPPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Milford, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new, original, and ornamental Design for a Divan-Frame; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The accompanying drawing shows a front elevation of my new design.
As shown in the drawing, the leading or material features of my design consist of the back rail 1, extending generally in a horizontal plane and having its surface unornamented, the extremities of said rail terminating in downwardly-curved portions 2, the acanthus-like ornamentations 3, which surmount the middle portion of the back rail and extend in opposite directions, the shelllike ornamentations 4, which rise midway between the ornamentations 3 at the point where the latter meet, and the gradually-diverging fiute-like portions 5, which extend upwardly from the ornamentations 3 on opposite sides of tho shell-likefigure 1, the sides 6 having a general scrolllike shape and bounded by compound curves, which gradually diverge from the top to the bottom, the front surface of said sides being perfectly plain at the upper ends thereof, thelower part of this plain surface being intersected by horizontally disposed parallel groove like portions 7, while extending from the lowermost intersecting grooves are a series of scroll-like figures 8, which terminate at the bottom of the portions 6 in straight lines, the unornamented seat-frame 9, from whose extremities extend knee-like portions 10, having flute-like ornamentations 11, which extend substantially parallel with the boundaries of said knees, and the feet 12, which are terminated by toe-like representations 13.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is-
The ornamental design for a divan-frame, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
