Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW STARK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A SOFA.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW STARK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A SOFA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No.16,850, dated August 10, 1886.
Application filed July 3, 1826. Serial No. 207,192. Trrm of patent7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANDREW STARK, a citi zen of the United States, residing atGhicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for a Sofa, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph thereof.
The view in said photograph is a front ole vation of a sofa embodying my design.
This design consists in a sofa having a certain ornamental outline, which may he most definitely described by reference to the form of the same as seen in the front elevation. Said outline is symmetrical about a vertical line midway between the ends. The lower outline consists of acyma or ogee curve at each end, as A A, connected by thehorizontal base line B. These cymas A A diverge upward from the base line B, and merge at their upper ends in the rosettes O 0 interior to the upper curves of the cymas. The form of the sofa in its up per outline, except so far as it includes the upper outline of said rosettes, is not material to my design. Below the cynias A A they are l provided with a border ofpendent ornaments of the nature of a fringe, as E, of substantially uniform length, and therefore reproducing a secondary but fluctuating outline similar to that of the cynias A A. The material feature of the fringe or pendent ornamentation E is that its vertical direction, and consequent appearance of laxity, presents a contrast to the rigid curve of the cyma.
I claim- The design for a sofa herein described and illustrated, the same consisti ug of the sofa having at each end a cynia or ogee scroll and a rosette within the upper curve of the scroll, said scrolls diverging upward and having each a lower border of pendent ornaments.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, this 21st day of June, A. l). 1886, in the presence of two witnesses, at Chicago, Illinois.
ANDREW STARK.
