DESIGN FOR COFFlN-HANDLE-SOCKET BASES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,882, dated December 28, 1875; application filed December 21, 1875.

Be it known that I, \VILLIAM M. SMITH, of Vest Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut,ha\'e invented anew Design for Cofiiu-llaudle-Socket Base; and I do hcrebg declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear. and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent a front YIGW.
This invention relates to a design for the base of coffin-handle sockets-that is to say, the base or plate upon which the socket is formed or attached, to which the handle-lever is hung; and it consists in the peculiar configuration of the base, as shown in the accompan ying illustration, and hereinafter described.
The two sides curve from a point at the bottom upward, intersecting at each side with the projecting section a, of similarly-curved form, and the whole surmounted by a third proiec tion, (I, also of similar form, forming what may be termed a shield shape. From the projection a at each side is a representation otdrapery, which forms a background for the base. The front may be ornamented to suit the taste or demands of the trade; but such ornamentation is not essential to this design.
I claim The design for coflin'handle-socket base, as shown and described, eonsistin g of the curved body with projections at the upper portion, and with drapery at the sides.
