WILLIAM M. SMITH, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO MERIDEN BRITANNIA COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR FUNERAL ORNAMENT.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,396, dated January 8, 1878; application filed December 11, 1877. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. SMITH, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Funeral Ornament; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, to be a full, clear, and exact description ot the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a face vlew.
This invention relates to a design for ornament, with special reference to funereal decoration, applicable to caskets and kindred purposes; and the design consists in a cross with a kneeling figure at its foot, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and as hereinafter described.
The base represents a rock or mound, on which stands the cross. On this mound, and at the foot of the cross, a female figure is represented as in kneeling posture, holding a wreath in one hand, and with hair and mi ment flowing.
The wreath may be omitted without materially changing the design.
I claim-- The design for funereal ornament, consisting of a mound and cross standing thereon, with a kneeling figure at its foot, as herein de' scribed, and shown in accompanying illustration.
