mama/yea I 7 40 W UNITED STATE S PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. LEARNED, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR FUNERAL ORNAMENT.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,881, dated October 29, 1878; application filed September 23,1878. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. LEARNED, of Meriden, county of New Haven, Uonneoti out, have invented a new Design for Funeral Ornament; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying illustration, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said illustration constitutes a face view.
This invention relates to a design for an ornament with special reference to funeral decoration--that is to say, an ornament which may be attached to a casket, or to flowers, or other parts of funeral decoration, and for analogous purposes; and it consists in the form and ornamentation of a flower-piece, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and hereinafter described.
The principal feature of the design, and which forms the base of it, is a number of lily or calla flowers resting on leaves. as shown in the accompanying illustration. Stems or stalks run down, on which and across is a band, on which an appropriate motto is placed. The band is here represented as a ribbon with ends projecting at sides of the bouquet, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
On the stems or stalks, and along up their sides, are other flowers and leaves-lily of the valley, &c., and rose-leaves, as represented in the accompanying illustration.
The exact form or kind of leaves, as shown in the accompanying illustration, as connected with or being under the lily or calla flowers, is not necessary, it only being necessary that the lily or calla flowers be used in connection with a band.
The flowers and leaves other than the lily or calla flowers and leaves may be dispensed with, and the ornament consist of the calla or lily flowers and leaves with a band only. The band may be represented any other way than with projecting ends.
I claim 1. The herein-described design for funeral ornament, consisting of a flower-piece of lily or calla flowers, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
2. The design for funeral ornament, consisting of a flower-piece of lily or calla flowers, and with the representation of a ribbon on their stems and across the surface, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
3. The hercimdescribed design for funeral ornament consisting of a flower-piece of lily or calla flowers, and with the representation of a ribbon across the face, or on the face of the ornament, and with other flowers and leaves, as represented in the accompanying illustration.
CHARLES H. LEARNED.
