DESIGN FOR COFFlN-HANDLE SOCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,857, dated July 6, 1880.
Application filed June 9, 1880. Term ofpatcnt 7 years.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, WM. E. STEVENS, of New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented anew Design for Coffin-Handle Sockets; and I do here by declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part ofthis specification, and represents a face view.
This invention relates to a design for that part of a coflin -handle commonly called the socket-that is to say, the plates which are attached to the coffin, and in which the handle is hinged; and the design consistsin the configuration and ornamentation of the socket, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
The general outline of the socket is diam 0nd form. On the center is a raised ring, a, with a plain border at its outer and inner edges, the space between the said edges filled with a series of points. Vertically across the circular center is a hand, b, which swells outward in the center to form the pivotsea-t for the handle. Above and below, and surrounding the end of the hand 11, is a semicircular ornament, d, the ring a appearingto lie upon the said semicircular ornaments. The surface of the plate outside the ring is matted, the edge left plain, all as shown in the accompanyingillustration.
I claim- The design for coffin handle sockets, consisting of the diamond-shaped outline, the ring at around the center, its surface ori'iamented by a series of points, a vertical band, 1), across the center, surrounded at each end by a semicircular ornament, d, all as shown in the' accompanying illustration.
