UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLINTON c. CHILD, or CRINNELL, Iowa.
DESIGN FOR A CORNER-PIECE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design. No. 35,089, dated September 17', 1901.
Application iiled May 28, 1901. Serial No. 62,291. Term of patent 3% years.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, CLINTON C. CHILD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grinnell, in the county of Poweshiek and State of Iowa, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Corner-Pieces; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention appertains to a design for cornerr-pieces for picture-frames of novel form and unique configuration, the outline appealing to the esthetic as well as possessing utility.
The essential features of the design are similar members having a right-angular disposition, the outer walls of the members being attened and having inner extensions at their edges and the inner walls being parallel with and terminating a distance from a plane touching the edges of the outer walls and having the edges adjacent the angle connected by a web or lling-piece of approximately triangular form, the portion connecting the inner and outer walls being of arch form and the ends of the members being curved.
For a clearer understanding of the design reference is to be had to the appended description and the drawings hereto attached, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a cornerpiece embodying the design and as seen from the rear side. Fig. 2 is afront or plan view of the corner-piece.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in both views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The corner-piece is composed of members arranged relatively at a right angle to each other, each comprising an outer wall 1 and an inner wall 2, the two walls being parallel and connected by a part 3 of arched form. The wall l is of greater depth than the wall 2 and is provided at its inner or rear edge with inner extensions 4, as shown. The inner walls 2 of the members are connected by a filling-piece 5 of approximately triangular shape and in a higher plane than a plane touching the edges of the walls l. The triangular filling-piece 5 is in a plane parallel with a plane touching the edges of the walls, and its diagonal edge is straight. The surface is embellished by embossed ornamentation, substantially as shown, the same con-y sisting of oblong figures or lines having rounded ends and tapering throughout their length and radiating from' a central point of the edge ofthe triangular-shaped fillingpiece 5 toward the angle inclosed between the aforesaid right-angular members. Parallel lines extend across the end portions of the members about in line with the inner walls to form a square corner, and diverged lines extend diagonally of the square ltoward. the outer corner, and overlapped rounded iigures are arranged between the said diverged lines. The curved walls 3 have lanoeolate-shaped figures branching from the inner sides of the square at the corner.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- The design for a corner-piece, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLINTON C. CHILD.
