PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN BEDFORD, OF ROSSVILLE, TENNESSEE.
DESIGN FOR A HOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No.
32,448, dated April 3, 1900.
Application filed January 31, 1900. Serial No. 3,527. Term of patent 14 years.
To ctZZ w/ wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN BEDEOED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rossville, in the county of Fayette and State of Tennessee, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Hoe, of which the following I is a specification.
The invention relates to a new and original design for a hoe; and it has for its object to I provide a design of this character which will I be both ornamental and useful.
The essential feature of the design resides in a hoe consisting of a blade tapering from its rear end to its front end and sigmoidally curved from one end to the other, and a handle provided with reversely-curved shanks extendinglongitudinally of the center of the blade and conforming to the configuration of the same, the front shank presenting an inner concave face and the rear shank presenting a convex face to the blade.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hoe, showing my new and original design. Fig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a tapering blade having straight converging side edges 2 and provided with straight end edges 3 and 4, the edge 3 being shorter than the opposite end edge 4, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The blade 1 is sigmoidally curved, and the handle 5 is connected with the blade by shanks 6 and 7, diverging and reversely curved to agree with the curvature of the adjacent portions of the blade. The shank 6 presents an inner rounded convex face to agree with the concave face of the adjacent portion 8 of the blade, and the other shank 7 presents an inner concave face to agree with the convex face of the portion 9 of the blade. The length of the blade is much greater than its width, and the diverging shanks of the handle extend longitudinally of the blade and are reverse] y curved, as shown.
iVhat is claimed is- The design for a hoe, as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN BEDFORD.
