Description

DESIGN.
No. 34,84l. Patented July 23,1901.
E. WALSH, In.
' SHEET GLASS.
Indication filed. July 1, 1901 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD WALSH, JR, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
DESIGN FOR SHEET-GLASS.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Design No. 34,841, dated July 23, 1901.
Application filed July 1, 1901. Serial No. 663781- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD WALSH, J12, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and original Design for Sheet-Glass, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of a portion of a sheet of glass made in accordance with my new and original design, said view representing the reverse side thereof. Fig. 2 is a similar view representing the obverse side, and Fig. 3 is an edge elevational view.
This invention relates to a new and original design for sheet-glass; and it consists in the surface ornamentation thereof, as will hereinafter be more fully described.
In the drawings I have shown a portion of a sheet of glass, one surface of which I have designated as the obverse side, being configured by rounded parallel corrugations, while the opposite or reverse side of the sheet is configured by raised and depressed portions, forming ribs running in various directions, some of which are curved, being grouped around a given point, while various ribs are joined by abrupt angles at their ends with adribs.
jacent ribs, which adjacent ribs form, practically, continuations of the first-mentioned These ribs are continuous around a given point, forming irregularly-shaped fig ures. (Shown in the drawings.)
A sheet of glass ornamented and configured according to my new and original design has an appearance to the observer different from either of the designs on the opposite faces thereof. When the corrugated surface is nearest the observer, the uniformity of the irregular figures formed by the abruptly bound or curved ribs and projections on the reverse side is destroyed by refraction, so that the convexes of the corrugations are traversed by lights and shades at about right angles to the axes thereof, while in the concaves of the corrugations the irregular figures formed by the abruptly bound or curved ribs and projections on the reverse side are better defined.
What I claim is The design for sheet-glass, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses, this 21st day of June; 1901.
' EDWARD WALSH, JR. Witnesses:
GEORGE BAKEWELL, F. R. CORNWALL.
