SHEET GLASS.
(Application filed Oct. 18, 1900 'FIG-Z 0 u. mw Vw wa s UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES C. HARTUNG, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO EDWARD WALSH, JR:, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR SHEET-GLASS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,679, dated June 18, 1901.
Application filed October 18, 1900. Serial No. 33,525. Term of patent 14 years.
To coZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. HARTUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and original Design for Sheet-Glass, of which the following isa full, lear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a sheet of glass made in accordance with my new and original design, said View representing the obverse side thereof. Fig. 2 is a similar view representing the reverse side, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3, Fig. 1. This invention relates to a new and original design for sheet-glass; and it consists in the surface ornamentation thereof, as will hereinafter be more fully described.
In the drawings I have shown a portion of a sheet of glass, one surface, which I have designated as the obverse side, being configured by parallel rounded corrugations, while the opposite or reverse side of the sheet is configured by raised and depressed portions representing closely-associated tri-point figures, in the center of each of which is a star or raised figure having ridges and depressions radiating from a central point. In the three corners of each figure are raised curved ribs, as shown. The rounded corrugations above referred to have concavities between them, which concavities are described by arcs of circles corresponding to the convex portions of the corrugations. The design consists, essentially, of the rounded corrugations on one side and the tri-pointed figures and stars on the opposite side, as shown in the drawings.
When a sheet of glass ornamented and configured according to my new and original design is interposed between the source of light and the observer, the corrugated surface being nearest the observer, the regularity of the design on the reverse side is destroyed by refraction, so that the convex portions of the corrugations are traversed by lights and shades at about right angles to the axis thereof, while in the concave portions the design on the reverse side is so defined as to be perceptible to the observer.
What I claim is- The design for sheet-glass, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses, this 3d day of October, 1900.
CHARLES C. HARTUNG.
