DESIGN FOR A STOVE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 342, dated January 1, 1851.
To a/ZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES GILBERT and WITCHELL G. HALLMAN, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented or produced a new Design for a Parlor-Stove called The Dolphin Radiator, and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the principle or characterwhich distinguishes it from all other things before known, and of the usual manner of making, modifying, and using the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, of Which- Figure 1 is a viewofone of the side dues in the shape of a dolphin; Fig. 2, a plan of the top plate; Fig. 3, a plan of the bottoni plate; Fig. 4, an elevation of the front plate and doors; Fig. 5, an elevation of the side plate; Fig. 6, an elevation of the front base-plate with ash-pit door; and Fig. 7, an elevation of the side base-plate.
The drawings above enumerated show the detached pieces of a parlor-stove of a common form, but of a new and tasteful pattern. It consists of a base, Figs. 3, 6, and 7, ornamented with a foliated pattern with oval centers, the hearth-plate being surrounded with scrollwork, and having the Words Chas Gilbert, No. 249 Nth. 2nd St., Phila., Dolphin Radiator, Patented 1850 in raised letters. Upon the base is erected the fire-box, Figs. 4 and 5, the front having two open-work doors and the sides being Ornamente-d with a branching leaf and scroll pattern. Upon this rests the architrave, supported at the sides by four inverted dolphins, Fig. 1, and the whole is surmonnted by the top plate, Fig. 2, which is raised in the center and oruamented wit-h a leaf pattern radiating through apertures in a scroll. The border is an open-work scroll.
