Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB SIDNEY SCHMITZ, OF FARMERSVILLE, TEXAS.
DESIGN FOR A WASHBOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 32,832, dated June 12, 1900. Application filed May 14, 1900. Serial No. 16,687. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom, t weary cm2/067%:
Be it known that I, JACOB SIDNEY SCHMITZ, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Farmersville, in the county of Collin and State of Texas, have kinvented and produced a new and original Designfor a `Washboard, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a washboard; and it has forits object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in a washboard-body having its working surface provided with a central tier or row of straight horizontal rubbingwires disposed transversely of the board and having their termini equidistant from the sides of the board, all of the wires of said central tier or row being arranged in spaced parallel relation and grouped in a common plane longitudinally of the board and opposite duplicate side tiers or rows of straight rubbing-wires lying, respectively, at opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the board and having the individual wires thereof alternating with and extending between those of the central tier or row, the wires of each side tier or row being grouped in a common plane longitudinally of the board and having their opposite ends respectively terminating short of the longitudinal center and side edges of the board. l
The minor features of the design are the wires ofthe side tiers or rows, being of a shorter length than those of the central tier or row, and also in the working surface of the washboard-body being provided with straight superficial grooves in the face thereof and extending longitudinally beneath each tier or row of wires.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a washboard embodying the hereindescribed design. Fig. 2 is an elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Referring particularly to the drawings, the numeral l designates a washboard-body of the usual rectangular configuration and pro'- vided with a lat working surface 2. This working surface embodies the design forming the subject-matter of the present application and is provided with a central tier or row of straight horizontal rubbing-wires 3. These rubbing-wires 3 are grouped in a common plane longitudinallyof the board and are disposed transversely of the latter, but have their termini equidistant from the sides of the board. The said wires 3 of the central tier or row are all of the same length and are arranged in spaced parallel relation.
In addition to the central tier or row of wires 3 the working surface of the board is further provided with the opposite duplicate side tiers or rows of straight rubbing-wires 4. These side tiers or rows of wires are located, respectively, at opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the board and have the individual wires thereof alternating with and extending between those of the central tier or row. The said side wires 4 are of a shorter length than the wires 3 and have their 0pposite extremities `respectively terminating short of the longitudinal center and the side edges of the board. Y,
The design is completed by the rubbingsurface 2 being provided with longitudinal superficial grooves in the face thereof and lying beneath the central and side tiers or rows of rubbing-wires.
The design for a washboard herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JACOB SIDNEY SCHMITZ.
