DESIGN FOR A BREECHING'-HOOK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 32,824, dated June 12, 1900.

Application filed April 19, 1900. Serial No. 13,545. Term of patent 14 years.

To all whont it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. SCHLEL CHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Breeching llooks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a breeching-hook embodying my design; Fig. 2, a front elevation thereof; Fig. 3, a rear elevation thereof; Fig. 4, a horizontal section of the same on the line 4 4, Fig. 1; Fig. 5, a vertical transverse section on line 5 5, Fig. 1; Fig. 6, a similar section on line 6 6, Fig. 1; and Fig. '7, a bottom plan view of the same.

This invention relates to designs for breeching hooks or holdbacks, which hooks, as is well known, are attached to vehicle-shafts and serve as a bearing for the breeching-strap and to hooks of asimilar nature and function.

The new design consists in a breechinghook having the new shape and configuration substantially as shown in the drawings and described in the specification.

By referring to the drawings it will be noted that breeching-hooks embodying my design are formed with a standard A, which terminates with the usual threaded shank c, to be inserted into the shaft of a vehicle, a rear brace B, ending in a foot I), having beveled or countersunk socket b for a fasteningscrew, a tie-rod 0, connecting the standard A with the brace B, and a front beak or strapguard D.

It will be noted, particularly by referring to Figs. 4 and 5, that the standard, as well as the guard or beak D, as well as the bend d, connecting the standard and beak, are flattened or of an elongated or elliptical crosssection, and that these parts when viewed from the front, Fig. 2, taper substantially continuously and evenly from the upper portion a of the standard A, through the bend d to the upper portion d of the beak D, the said beak terminating in the thin lenticular portion d The rear brace B, as shown particularly in Figs. 4 and 5, is substantially triangular in cross-section, the apex of the triangle being directed outwardly, thus forming a thin outer edge, said edge after the rear brace reaches the standard A merging in a fin or lip E, which extends entirely around the outer or lower portion of the bond (1, and is continued upward on the outside of the guard or beak D. The latter upwardly-extending portion of the fin tapers upwardly, as shown, until it is lost or merges in the body of the beak. The tierod 0 is also somewhat flattened or oval in cross-section, as shown in Fig. 6.

The essential features of my design are the flattened and tapering shape and configuration of the standard and guard, as described and shown, and the fin or lip extending around the bend and along the outside of the guard.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The design for a hreeching-hook substantially as shown and described.
