Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
HARRY MACDERMOTT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A HAMMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,290, dated November 12, 1901.
Application filed August 221 1901. Serial No. 72,959- Term of patent 14 years.
To (tZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY MACDERMOTT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Hammer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hammer, showing my design; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The leading feature of my design consists in the design forming the subject-matter of the accompanying illustration and particularly characterized by the contour in elevation of the body of the hammer and the claw thereof.
The body A of the hammer has a straight lower end A a front end extending upwardly at the rear end of the shank B of the head B and connecting with a curved line which forms the round top for the body A, such rounded top projecting but slightly above the upper line of the shank B, as shown at A, and then continues downwardly, in a line simulating the line of beauty on the outer face of the claw, to the extremity of the claw, which stands considerably below the straight lower end A and the inner face of the claw is joined by rather an abrupt bend to the rear face of the body A of the handle, as shown in Fig. 1. It will be noticed that the outline of the body A and the claw O is continuous and unbroken and presents in side elevation a conformation or contour which is complete. This is secured by extending the front edge of the body A in an unbroken line straight for a portion of its length from the lower end of the head A to a point where it crosses the line of the shank B and then curving rearwardly, such front edge producing a shouldered effect at the juncture of the body and shank of the head.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for a hammer as herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRY MAODERMOTT.
Witnesses:
