(No Model.)
WITNESSES. OR.

PLOW-POINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 612,444, dated October 18, 1898. Application filed May 20,1898. Serial No. 681,188- (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. TROUP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deshler, in the county of Henry and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Points; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexeddrawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the point, showing the top of the same. Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the bottom or under side of the point. Fig. 3 is an edge view. Fig. 4 is a transverse section through line m :r, Fig. 1 Fig. 5 is a section through line g y, Fig. 2.
The present invention has relation to plowpoints; and it consists in the diflerent parts and combination of parts, hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numbers of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the point proper, which is of the usual size and shape; but it will be understood that various sizes may be used as well as slight modifications as to the different forms without departing from the nature of my invention.
The forward end of the point proper is provided with the two teeth or lugs 2,which are located at the edge of the point proper and extend rearward for a short. distance.
The bottom or under side of the forward end of the point 1 is provided with the flange 3,wl1ich flange is located between the teeth 2, which flange together with the teeth are pointed at their front ends. Between the teeth 2 the flange 3 is concaved, by which arrangement the teeth are extended a short distance beyond the edge of the flange 3, thereby assistin g in preventing any lateral displacement of the point during the time it is in use. For the purpose of providing a sickle edge the bottom or under edge of the point proper is provided with the teeth 4,which teeth extend from the curved point 5 to the rear end of the point proper, by which arrangement a better cutting edge is produced.
For the purpose of providing a sufflcient amount of metal to give the desired strength the bottom or under side of the shear is provided with the flange 6,which flange extends a short distance upward from the cutting edge of the point or shear.
The bottom or under side of the plow-point is provided with a rib, which rib extends from the rear end of the point to within a short distance of the point end of the point, and said rib provided upon the bottom or under edge thereof with teeth or corrugations.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination of the point 1 provided with the teeth 2, the flange 3 located between the teeth and provided with a ooncaved edge, and a sickle edge formed upon the cutting edge of the shear or point proper, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, a plow-point provided with a rib extended from the rear end of the point to within a short distance of the front end thereof and said rib provided with teeth or corrugations,
substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD L. TROUP.
