Description

D8-344. OR D271o28 EX DESIGN.
R. W. OWEN LOCK PLATE.
No. 27,428. Patented July 27, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD W. OVEN, OF GLEN ELLYN, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A LOOK-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,428, dated July 2'7, 1897.
Application filed April 30,1897. Serial No. 634,649. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. OWEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Glen Ellyn, in the county of Du Page and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Lock-Plates or Eseuteheons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing, forming part thereof, in which the figure is a perspective View of a lock-plate of my new design.
As shown in the drawing, the leading or material feature of my design consists in a lock-plate or escutcheon a, having substantially parallel upper and lower edges 1) 0, respectively, and side edges arranged to form obtuse angles with the upperand lower edges. As shown in the drawing, the lower portions (1 d of the side edges are considerably longer than the upperportions e e of such side edges, and obtuse angles are formed where the side edges meet the upper and lower edges and also where the upper and lower portions of each side edge join, giving the lock-plate the general appearance of a hat-box in side elevation. The upper edge b of the plate or escuteheon is slightly concave and the lower edge thereof slightly convex, as shown in the drawing.
f indicates a narrow groove extending substantially parallel with the upper edge I) of the plate or escutcheon from the angle between the upper and lower portions 0 (l of one side edge to the angle between the upper and lower portions 6 d of the opposite side edges.
g indicates a circular plate arranged substantially centrally of the plate a, in which is the keyhole h.
My new plate or escutcheon is intended, primarily, for use in connection with hat boxes, but it may be used on other articles.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a lock-plate or escutcheon, as herein shown and described.
RICHARD OW'EN.
