PATENT OFFICE.
OF BUFFALO, NEW V YORK.
DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE-FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,899, dated April 13, 1897.
Application filed January 18, 1897. Serial No. 619,687. Term of patent 14: years.
To 0,55 whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM S. GUBEL- MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented and prod need a new and original Design for Cycle-Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing. forming a part thereof.
This design relates to the configuration of a cycle -fran1e, the accompanying drawing being a perspective view of a cycle-frame embodying my design.
The distinctive feature of my design consists in the peculiar shape of" the front ends of the upper and lower rear forks.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the steering-head; B, the crank-hanger; D, the lower front bar, extending from the head to the hanger; E, the saddle-post, extending upwardly from the hanger; and F, the upper front bar extending from the head to the upper end of the saddle-post.
G G are the two bars which constitute the upper rear fork and which extend from the rear axle-supports h to the upper end of the saddle-post. Each of these bars consists of alower straight portion 9, which extends forwardly and upwardly from the rear end of the bar, an upper straight portion 9, offset inwardly beyond the plane of'said lower portion, and an intermediate portion 9 which connects said straight portions and which is reversely curved or of ogee form, as shown. The upper straight portions g converge upwardly and rest against each other, as dis tinguished from fork-arms which are separated at their upper portions by an intervening space, forming practically a single bar, while at the same time preserving the appearance of two separate and distinct bars, as shown in the drawing.
I I represent the two bars which constitute the lower rear fork and which extend from the rear axle-supports to the hanger. Each of these bars consists of a rear straight pori, which extends forwardly from the rear end of the bar, a front straight portion 11, offset inwardly beyond the plane of said rear portion and. an intermediate portion i which connects said straight portions and which is reversely curved or of ogee form, as shown. The front straight portions 2" are parallel and rest against each other, forming practically a single bar, while at the same time preserving the appearance of two separate and distinct bars, as shown in the drawing.
I claim as my invention- 1. The design for the upper roar fork of a cycle-frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
. 2. The design for the lower rear fork of a cycle-frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
Witness my hand this 11th day of January,
WILLIAM S. GUBELMANN. itnesses JNo. J. BONNER,
Tnno. L. PoPr.
