DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,119, dated October 20, 1891. Application tiled August. 17, 1891. Serial No. 402,906. Term of patent 14 years.

Be it known that I, GUsTAvE SCHEOEDER, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Type, which is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying typographical impressions, forming a part thereof.
This design comprises lower-case letters, capitals, figures, dollar-mark, character du, and points. It is very extended, bold face, and devoid of shades and light lines, all lines being substantially uniformly heavy. The second forms of lower-case h, ni, and n and the first form of capital A are distinguished hy a stroke which is the final stroke of the lowercase letters and the initial stroke of the capital-a curve of more than ninety degrees, being approximately one hundred and eighty degrees in the lowercase letters, and departing slightly from an are of a circle with a tendency toward spiral form, concave toward the remainder of the letter, and extending down below the line. Horizontal elements ot' capitals, as the cross of capital T and the horizontals ot capitals E,F, and Z, have the free ends finished hy ceriplis ou both sides-. e., above and below. Capital U has in lieu ot the customary upper characteristic a ceriphlike formation at the inner corner of the upper end, the outer corner being finished square without ceriph 0r characteristic, and the lower terminal is an incipient spiral, the end of the line heilig exteriorly rounded and interiorly very slightly hooked.
