Description

DESIGN.
J. D. BERGEN.
ORNAMENTATION 0F GLASSWARE.
No. 21,050. Patented Sept. 22,1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES D. BERGEN, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION OF GLASSWARE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,050, dated September 22, 1891.
Application filed August 13, 1891. Serial No. 402,563- Tarm of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES D. BERGEN, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for the Ornamentation of Glassware; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification and represents the ornamentation as applied to a salad-bowl.
This invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of glassware; and it consists in the ornamentation as shown in the accompanying illustration.
In illustrating the design it is shown as applied to a salad-bowl, which will be sufiicient for the understanding of the invention to enable others to apply it to various articles of glassware.
The general surface outline is represented as convex. The upper line of the ornamem tat-ion presents a series of scallops pinked upon their upper edge. Alternate scallops are ornamented upon their face by the representation of a many-pointed star, the lines forming the points of the star represented as running across from one point to another point on the opposite side, thereby producing numerous facets. The intermediate scallops are represented as formed by a series of ribs running from the pinked edge of the scallop downward and curved below the star ornament of the next scallop and giving to this part of the ornamentation a cornucopia shape. On the face of the ribs thus running from the edge of the scallop is the representation of a transverse bar. The surface below such scallop ornamentation is represented as ornamented by a series of ribs runningdownward toward the bottom of the article, all as shown in the accompanying illustration.
I claim The herein-described design for the ornamentation of glassware, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib ing witnesses.
JAMES D. BERGEN.
