OBNAMENTATION 0F SHEET METAL.
No. 17,621 Patented Aug. 9, 1887.
Nth- 555.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES WOOD, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION OF SHEET METAL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,621, dated August 9. 1887,
Application filed Malch 2, 1897. Serial No. 229,453. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES \VOOD, 0f Pittsbnrg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Design for the Ornamentation of Sheet Metal; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows in plan view a piece of sheet metal ornamented with the design, and Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section on the line a: w of Fig. 1.
Like symbols of reference indicate like parts in each.
As shown in the drawings, the sheet metal is ornamented with the well-known hammermark pattern-i. e., with a series of contiguous curved or polygonal bosses or figures in relief. The sheet is provided on the hammermark pattern with spots b b. A distinctive appearance is thus produced.
I do not claim, broadly, as a design sheet metal ornamented with the ham mer-mark pat tern, for that is old; nor do I claim, broadly, as a design sheet metal whose surface is ornamented with spots. The leading and distinguishing feature of the design consists in the hammer-marked sheet metal provided wilh spots b b.
I claim- The design for the ornamentation of sheet metal, consisting in a metal sheet ornamented with a series of contiguous bosses or figures in relief, constituting a hammer-mark pattern, and having spots b b on said pattern, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of February, A. D.
JAMES WOOD. Witnesses:
THOMAS W. BAKEWELL, W. B. OoRWIN.
