Description

DESIGN.
I. H. JOHANNESE SPOON, &c.
No. 20,902. Patented June 30, 1891.
vvilmeaoeo I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
IRA H. JOHANNES, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON, 86C- SPECIFIOATION forming part of Design No. 20,902, dated May 30, 1891.
Application filed May 27, 1891. Serial No. 394,297. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA H. JoHANNEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Spoons and Similar-Articles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates to a new design for spoons and similar articles; and it consists in the peculiar shape and ornamental configuration hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing accompanying this specification is represented an elevation of my improved design, and in which A is the bowl of the spoon, and B is the handle. The upper end of the handle is enlarged, as at C, which portion is occupied by a representation of the central portion of the east front of the Capitol building at \Vashington, the dome of the Capitol occupying a central position and extending above the handle. The edges of the enlarged portion are decorated with suitable configuration representing branches, leaves, and the fruit of a cherry-tree. This decoration is continued down the handle to its union With the bowl, at which point the cluster of leaves, branches, and fruit is increased, as at D. larged portion of the upper end is repre-, sented as forming the handle of a hatchet, the blade E of which. is located in the bowl of the spoon and has the representation of a cherry-tree placed thereon. The central space of the handle of the spoon, as well as the portion of the bowl below the blade of the hatchet, is arranged so that any suitable inscription may be placed thereon.
The leading and essential feature of my design consists of the handle of a hatchet passing forward into the bowl of the spoon and displaying the blade or head thereof within the bowl.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a spoon or similar article, substantially as herein shown and described.
-In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
IRA I-I. .IOHANNES.
