Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREW LITTLE, OF NEW YORK, Y.
DESIGN FOR TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,755, dated November 27, 1888.
Application filed October 3, 1888. Serial No. 287.095. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW LITTLE,a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing- Type; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying facsimile, forming a part thereof.
The nature of the design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to which reference is made; and it consists in a script letter, as shown.
Referring to the capital letters A, B, F, G, H, I, K, M, N, P, R, S, T, X, and Y, the uprights thereof extend out to the rear and have their horizontal strokes flattened, and have a heavy shade at the extreme end. The first stroke of the O, E, G, H, K, and L is also extended out and flattened, having a heavy shade at the extreme end. The botton; loop of the I), L, and Qis made prolate. The finishing stroke of the L and Q is flattened out.
The general design of the letters is to lean 2 them forward and extend them out to the rear. This is also true of the lower-case letters and the figures.
Of thelower-case letters, the loops above the line extend up considerably in proportion to ,0 the letter.
The leading or characteristic feature of this design is a script letter or figure leaning forward and extending out to the rear, the horizontal strokes being flattened and having a 35 shade at their ends.
Having now described my invention, I claim-- The design for a font of printing-type, as shown. 40
In testimony whereof I alfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW LITTLE.
