Description

P M227 Z/D/XOZQI Design No. 18,227, dated April 3, 1888.
UNITED STATES FRANCIS A. GOFFIN, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
DESIGN FOR A CABINET-DESK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18.227, dated April 3, 1888.
Application filed December 15, 1887. Serial No. 258,039.
Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS A. COFFIN, of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, haveinvented a certain new and original Design for Cabinet-Desks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying engravings, which illustrate the same.
My invention consists in a new design for cabinet writing-desks, and will be understood from the following description.
In the engraving illustrating the specifica tion, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the desk closed up. Fig. 2 isasimilar view with the flexible curtain thrown back, showing the interior arrangement of the cabinet I and the drawers open a little way.
In detail the desk comprises a table carrying a cabinet-top which is provided with a slatted curtain and a frame-work having a pedestal on one side of the central space. The top is of medium height and incloses a row of pigeon-holes above, two longer compartments below, and two small drawers beneath these. Between these drawers and below them is an open space. The edges of the table-top are molded and project beyond the frame-work on the front side and ends. The pedestal con tains a series of drawers increasing in width from the top to the bottom, and asinglelonger drawer occupies the space between the pedestal and the other end of the frame. The drawer-fronts are ornamented with pairs of straight lines above and below the handles,
which are ofa molded pattern hollowed out beneath. The drawers, when closed, go in flush with the frontand the edges are plain. The front corners of the pedestal and frame are ornamented with fiat molded pilasters having plain bases and molded capitals. Beneath the long drawer is a central open space. The ornamentation upon the drawer-fronts, consisting of parallel lines, is carried out upon the base of the pedestal, and the brackets beneath the longer drawer are ornamented with oblique lines.
The leading features of my design are in the details hereinbeforc indicated.
I claim- As a design, a writing-desk having a cabinet-top of medium height, supported at one end by a paneled frame of equal width with the desk, at the other by a pedestal inclosing a series of drawers of different widths, a single longer drawer beneath the top at the left of the pedestal, and the interior of the cabinet-top arranged with partitions and drawers, all the drawers having molded handles, the drawerfronts ornamented with parallel lines above and below the handles, the front corners of the pedestal and frame ornamented with flat molded pilasters having plain bases and molded eapi tals, substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of November, 1887.
FRANCIS A. GOFFI'N. Witnesses:
