Be it known that I FRANCIS A. GOEICIN, of Indianapolis, county ol Marion and State 0i' Indiana, haveinvented a certain new and original Design for Cabinet-Desks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying engravings, which illus trates the saine.
In the engravings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view ol`l my newly-designed desk, all the openings being closed up. Fig. 2 is a similar view ofthe same, the desk-curtain being rolled back, showing the interior arrangement.
The desk itself belongs to that class known as cabinet-desks; and it consists ola table supA ported upon pedestals, in each of which is a series of drawers ol'diilerent widths, and between these two divisions of the desk is an open centrai space. Upon the top is fixed a cabinet portion inclosing a series ot' partitions and a couple of small drawers, with an open space between these and below them. The top is closed by a iiexible curtain, in the usual Inanner. The edges of the sides ofthe top and of the table portion are molded, as shown. The pedestals of the desk are separated by at pilasters having molded bases and capitals. The fronts of the drawers project beyond the face of the frame-work and have beveled edges. Plain straight handles, with beveled edges and rounded ends, are secured thereto, as shown. The small drawers in the cabinet also have handles, and above and below them their fronts are nished with plain straight lines, as
is also the central piece below the table between the pedestals of thc desk. The sides of the desk are paneled, the side of the top portion being of a single panel and the body portion of doublepanels. rl`he escutcheon for the key-hole is fixed upon n. rectangularshaped piece, as shown.
'Ihe leading features of my design consistin the molded edges of the table and the top portions, the two pedestals, each containing a Series of drawers of different widths, the front corners ofthe pedestals ornainented with flat molded pilasters with molded bases and capitals, the drawers havingr beveled edges and beveled handles with rounded ends, as shown.
I claim- The design for writing-desks herein shown l and described. consisting of a eabinettop of medium height, its ends having double-beaded curves resting upon pedestals having a central open space between, each pedestal containing a series of drawers of different widths, whose fronts project beyond the face oi' the desk and have beveled edges, the front corners of the pedestals ornamented with Hat molded pilasters with bases and capitals,the d rawer-handles having rounded ends and beveled edges,and the interior ofthe cabinet-top arranged fordrawers and pigeon-holes, substantially as shown and described.
