UQ-QE2 DESIGN FOR A WRITING-DESK.-
SPBCIPICATION forming part of Design No. 18,111 d ted February 28, 1888.
Appliration filed December 15, 1887. Serial No. 258,033. Term of patent 7 years,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS A. GOFFIN, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
DESIGN FOR A WRITING-DESK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,111, d ted February 28, 1888.
Application filed December I5. 1887. Serial No. 558,033. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be'it known that I, FRANCIS A. COFFIN, of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented and produced a certain new and original Desigzi"'for Writing- Desks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying engraving, which illustrates the same.
The drawing represents a perspective view of my newly-designed desk, the door of the cupboard side being open, showing the interior. The desk itself is constructed upon the well-known plan, having a table-top resting upon pedestals and a central open space between them. On one side of this open space is a series of drawers of different widths, increasing from the top to the bottom, and on the other a single drawer with a cupboard below, having pigeon-holes and partitions for books, which is closed by a door. The table portion of the desk is of smooth plain finish, the edges of the top being finished with neat ogee molding. The ends of the desk are finished in double panels, while the corners of the pedestals on each side are finished in flat pilasters with molded bases and capitals. The edges of the drawer-fronts are beveled and project the thickness of the front beyond the finish of the frame. The handles are plain and straight, without ornament, their edges beveled, and with rounded ends.
The leading features of my design consist in the edges of the table, the pilasters upon the front of the desk, the finish of the drawer fronts and handles, and the unusual depth of the lower drawer in the series of drawers, which is almost twice that of any other in the series.
I claim- The design for writing-desks herein shown and described, consisting of a desk of with fiat table-top supported upon two pedestals, witha central open space between them, the one con taining a series of drawers and the other a door and cupboard, the fronts of the drawers beveled, the drawer-handles plain upon the face and with beveled edges, the front corners of the pedestals ornamented with flat pilasters with molded bases and capitals, and the table-top ornamented with molded edges, substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of November, 1887.
FRANCIS A. COFFIN.
