The lower section ofthe cabinettop is of about twice the width of the upper, located immediately below it, and rests upon the table of the desk itself. It also is closed by a dexible curtain. Its interior is divided into partitions and pigeon-holes, below which is a pair of small drawers and beneath these an open space. The edges ofthe top section and of the table are molded, and just beneath the table of the desk are a pair of slides with molded edges. The base is divided into two parts or pedestals, cach of which contains aseries of drawers of different widths, which shut in flush with the face of the casing when closed. All the drawers have molded handles of a sort of shell pattern and are ornamented above and below these handles by a series of plain straight lines, and the central portion of the drawer fronts is veneered, as shown. The front corners of the pedestals are finished with molded pilasters, in the central parts of which appear aseries of straightlines, and above and below these ornamental designs of curls and branches, and near the top a circle with fluting. The open space between the pedestalsiextends through to and is closed up by the back of the desk.
The ends of the desk are paneled and veneered, as shown in Fig. l.
The leading features of my design consistin the details herein indicated and claimed.
I claim- The design for cabinet writingdesks herein described, comprising a base having two pedestals, each of which contains a series of drawers with slides above and beneath, the cabinettop composed of two sections, the upper one of less width than the lower, each closed by a curtain, a railing surmounting the top section, the interior of the upper divided by partitions, the interior of the lower section containing pigeon-holes and drawers with an open space beneath, the fronts of the drawers veneered and ornamented with straight lines above and below, handleswhich areshell-shapedand molded, the edges of the slides molded, the corners of the pedestals finished with ornamented pilasters grooved and beaded, substantially asshown and described.
