My invention consists in a new cabinet writing-desks, and will be understood from the following description.
In the engravings illustrating the specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the desk closed up. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the flexible curtain thrown back, showing the interior arrangement of the cabinet, the cupboarddoor open, and the drawers open a little way.
In detail, the desk comprises a table carrying a cabinet-top, which is closed by a flexible curtain in the usual inanner, and a frame-work composed of a couple of pedestals, one on each side of the central space. The top is of medium of height and incloses a row of pigeonholes at the top for papers and letters, two longer compartments below for small books or writing-paper, and two small drawers beneath these. Between these drawers and below them is an open space. The edges of the tabletop are molded and project beyond the framework on the front side and ends. One of the pedestals contains aseries of drawers increasing in width from the top to the bottom, and the other a sigle drawer above and a cupboard containing pigeon holes and partitions for books andpapers, which is closed by a door. The drawer-fronts are ornamented with pairs design for of straight lines above and below the handles, which are of a molded pattern, hollowed out beneath for the insertion of the fingers. The drawers, when closed, go in flush with the front, and the edges are plain. The corners of the pedestals are finished with flat molded pilasters having plain bases and molded capitals. Between the pedestals is a central open space. The finish upon thedrawer-fronts, consisting of twopaialle'l lines, is" carried out 'upon the bases of the pedestals and the bracket-strip between them and beneath the tabletop.
The leading features of my design are in the details hereinbefore indicated.
I clain1- The design for cabinet-desks herein shown, comprising a base consisting of two pedestals, one inclosing a set of drawers of different widths, the other a drawer and cupboard below closable by a door, a cabinettop of medium height resting upon a table, its sides paneled, their upper edges formed with a double groove and molded, as shown, its interior arranged with a row of pigeon-holes, two longer partitions, and a pair of small drawers closable bya folding curtain, the drawers having molded handles and their fronts ornamented with pairs of straightlines, the corners of the pedestals finished with flat molded pilasters having plain bases and molded capitals, substantially as shown and described.
