.UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB S. EAI-IR, OF POTTSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA;
CABINET FoR UMBRELLAS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 455,604, dated July 7, 1891. Application tiled November 11, 1890. Serial No. 371,066. Y. (No model.) l
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB S. BAHR, a citi-` preventing displacement of the same, as will be hereinafter set forth.Y
Figure l represents a perspective view of an umbrella-case embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a vertical section of a portion thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondi'ng parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a case for holding umbrellas, parasols, canes,
&c.,the saine having transparent sides B, and
adoor C, the latter when closed being secured slides retain their places, and each may be drawn out as desired. In the slides are soekets or openings E for receiving 'theends of umbrellas, parasols, canes, rbc., so as to support the same, as illustrated in'Figfl, it being seen that said articles may be readily displayed and viewed through'the case, and When the door is opened the same is accessible, and they may be removed by pulling out the proper slide, as exhibited in Fig. 1.`
Hinged to the floor of the case below the door C is a block F, which is adapted to close against the adjacent ends of the slides D, and thus conceal said ends. lVhen the door is shut it is above said block, (see Fig. 2,) so that the latter is prevented from being moved unless the door is opened; but it is evident that the block may be connected With the door so to open and close Withthe same; but the hinged form of the block is` preferred, for
when it is swung back from the slides it may constitute a continuation of the floor of the case, and thus support the slide or slides when draivnout, as illustrated in Fig. l.
For the convenience of operating the slides, the same are provided with finger pieces or pulls G. IIaving thus described my invention, what I desire to claim as new,l and secure by Letters Patent, .is
l. A ease having a slide movable on the iioor thereof and provided with sockets or openings, stationary pieces orstrips arranged on each side of and forming guides for`said slide, and an adjustable block adapted to'be movedagai'nst the end of said slide to prevent the sani'e'being Withdrawn, substantially as described.
g 2. A case having slides therein, a door on the frame of said case, adapted to open and close from and toward the ends of said slides,
and a hinged piece at the base of said doorA closing the ends of the slides andlocking the slides, substantially as described.
3. A casehaving longitudinal slides, provdedWith side guides and openin gs or sockets in top thereof, vstationary intervening .piecesbetvveen said slides, and a hinged end piecefor covering the ends of said slides, all combined substantially as described.
4. vIn a'eabinet, substantially as described, a case having bottom provided With tongues and openings or sockets, and intervening stationary pieces alternately arranged between said slides and formed with grooves to receive said tongues, said parts being combined` and operating as stated.
15. A case having longitudinal slides, provided With openings or sockets, stationary sidepieces to Which saidslides are fitted, forming guides therefor, and a hinged piece covering the ends of the said slide, said parts being combined snbstantiallyas described.
