Description

012-9. OR 0 14.145 EX DESIGN.
W. O. LEAGH.
SLEIGH.
No. 14,145. Patented July 31, 1883.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WINSLOW O. LEACH, OF OONKLIN FORKS, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A SLEIGH.
srscrrrosrrox forming part of Design in. 14,145, emu July 31, 1888. Application filed June 6, 1883. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WmsLow O. Lmon of OonkliuForks, Broome county, State of ew York have invented a new and Improved Design for a Slei h, of which the following is a full, clear, an exact description.
My invention has reference to a sleigh in which the runners are made to form bows at their ends for connection directly with the body of the sleigh, without kneesand beams.
Heretofore sleighs of this deseriptionhave presented a bare and unsubstantial appearance, both when viewed laterally and cndwise. My novel design does away with this and gives an ornamental as well as substantial appearance to the sleigh, that makes it more attractive.
The design consists in having the runner portion of the sleigh ornamented by a peculiar configuration and arrangement of braces extending from the base portion of each runner,
at opposite ends thereof, -to bars connecting the bow ends of the portions of both runners, substantially as hereinafter described.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures.
Figure 1 is a side view of a cutter-sleigh, showing my improved design; and Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
AAare the usual bow-ended runners, made fast at their 'upper ends to the sills of the body B in the ordinary way. 0 Care the cross-bars connecting the two runners at their'opposite form or configuration, bowing in the same directions as e lower bowed-end portions of the runners, but of greater radius than said portions. Thus the braces D D, when viewed from either side of the sleigh, present a curved configuration, which is in perfect symmetry with the bowed ends of the runners, the same,
too inclining inward in an upward direction, which restricts them from too great prominence, as seen from the sides of the sleigh, and makes them also visible from the ends thereof in diverging directions toward. the bases of the runners, with diminishing prominence in a downward direction from the bars 0 O, which are straight in contrast with the curved braces D D.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved design for a sleigh having bowedend runners, which consists of the straight cross-bars 0 C and the braces D D, made curved or bowing in an outward direction endwise, and inclining inward in an upward direction from the bases of the runners to the cross-bars, as shown and described.
