Description

UNITED STATES JoHN NEIL, or
NEW YORK, N. `Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE BIGELOW CARPET COMPANY, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,998, dated June 19, 1883.
Application tiled November 28, 18S-2. Term of patent 3i years.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN NEIL, of N ew York city, county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification.
The accompanying photograph illustrates a face view of my new design for carpets.
This invention relates to a new design for carpets and analogous fabrics; and it consists of the new configuration of groups and gures that make up the groundwork of the carpet.
In the photograph it is shown that the car pet is ornamented with the principal figures marked A, B, D, E, and H. The ligure A represents a fanciful leaf having nine points, and containing in its body a series of decorated veins. Small rosettes are between the central upper series of three points and each of the lower series of three points. Below tle stem of the leaf-like figure A is a square enlargement, which connects with a figure, j, which is principally composed of leaves having serrated edges. The ligure B is of irregular outline, with scalloped upper portion and sawshaped lower wings, and has between these Wings a fanciful stem, a. From one side of the figure B extends the fanciful wing b, and above the figure B, and somewhat to the right of the same, is a fanciful Vfigure, z, resembling a goblet in outline, and above this isthe figure D, which resembles a heraldic shield embraced by a scalloped border/ at the lower part. Between the figure D and the figure A is a figure, m, which also represents a fanciful leaf leaves that appear to project from the same stem, from which stem also extends the stem of the leaf-like v figure o, and also the stem of iiower-like figuref, The geometrically-shaped field His to the left of the figure e, and above a twig-shaped figure, d. The upper part of the field H is embraced by a border, h, which abuts against the field or figure B. Above the figure A and to the right of the figure H is the ornamental figure E, which represents a fanciful vase standing in an inclined position upon an inclined base. Between the stem j of the ligure A and the goblet-like figure z is a group of serrated leaves, s. Another group of serrated leaves, n, is to the left of the figure H, and another group4 of serrated leaves, @,to the right of the figure E. From the upper part of the figure E extends an ornamental spray, t.
I claim- The design for carpet, consisting of the {iguresABDEHcbzxswodefmhjfrt'i'v, substantially as shown.
JOHN NEIL.
