DESIGN FOR A NEWEL-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,026, dated November 9, 1880.
Application filed August 28, 1980. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. HENRY TEXTOR, oi the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have originated and produced a new and Improved Design for Newel- Posts, of which the following is a specification.
The character ofmy design is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which 10 represents a perspective view of a newel-post embodying my design.
The base A comprises a polygonal or rectau gular portion, or, having fiat sides, above which are convex and concave moldings b 0, surmounted by a fillet, (I. The moldings b c are interrupted upon each side by a semicircular projection, 6, extending out flush with the fiat side a, and in such projection and flat side is a sunken rosette .f. Above the base is an out wardly rounded or convex portion, g, the sur face of which is striated, as clearly shown, and above this portion, and separated from it only by a fillet, h, is a concave or hollow portion, i, the sides of which are fluted or grooved at j.
Above the portion 2' is a band-molding, k, in
terrnpted upon each side by a circular raised panel, k, in which is a rose or rosette, k.
The body portion B ofthepost tapers slightly and has plain sides or faces, save at the top,
0 where is a small scrolled ornament, 1. Above the body portion B is a head, at, and above this head upon each face or side is a series of small roses or rosettes, n.
The cap 0 of the post is composed of the fillet 5 o, the convex molding p, and the fillet q, above which and upon each face of the post is a gable-like projectiornr, the upperoutliue of which curves downwardly upon each side of the center, and in the face of which is a recessed or 40 sunken scrolled ornament, 8.
Above the projections r is a foliated molding, t, of novel form, which is surmounted by a fillet, a, and above said fillet the cap slants inward, and is surmounted by an ornamental 5 finial, 11.
hat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A design for the base of a newel-post,
consisting of the polygonal or rectangular fiatsided portion a, the semicircular projections c, and the sunken roses or rosettes f, as specifled.
2. A design for the base of a newel-post, consisting of the polygonal or rectangular llatsided portion a, the moldings b c (I, the semicircular projections c, interrupting the moldings, and the sunken roses or rosettes f, as specified.

4. A design for the base and lower portion of a newel-post, consisting of the polygonal or rectangular flat-sided portion a, the moldings b c d, the convex or rounded portion g, the surtnounting concave portion '1 the band-molding 7C k, the circular raised panels It, and the roses or rosettes It, as specilied.

6. A design for the cap of a nee el-post, consisting of the gable-like projections 1", having rounded or curved npperoutlines, the recessed or sunken scrolled ornaments s, the foliated molding t, and the fillet u, as specified.
7. A design for a newel-post, consisting of the polygonal or rectangular fiat-sided portion a, moldings b c d, the projections e, the sunken roses or rosettesf, the rounded or convex portion g, the concave portion t, the circular raised panels k, the roses or rosettes k", the scrolled ornaments l, the bead m, the roses or rosettes n, moldings 0 p q, projections r, having recessed scrolled ornaments s, and the foliated o molding t, as specified.
