Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT HART, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE WM. ROGERS MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR SPOON OR FORK HANDLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,614, dated. January 20, 1880.
Application filed December 26, 1879.
To all whom it may concern 4 Be it known that I, ALBERT HART, of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have originated and invented a new and useful Design for Spoon or Fork Handles; and I do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying cut, forming a part of this specification, in which- A represents the handle of a spoon or fork. At the lower end, near the bowl of the spoon or body of the fork, is an ornamentation, b, which is somewhat like the front elevation ot a crown, its top pointing toward the base of the handle. There may be below this aspray, and looking toward the top of the handle, on and above it centrally, an ornament attached to the under side of the crown.
Near the center or middle length of the bandle is the ornament c, likewise of the general configuration of a crown in front elevation, and resting on a beveled base, and it may be centrally surmounted by a ball. This ornament 0 is placed with its top or upper part toward the outer end of the handle. Just above this ornament the sides of the handle flare, and its top or outer end is considerably broadened, and is surmounted by an ornamentation, A, of distinctive crown-shaped appearance.
The lower band, (1, of the crown is formed of squares or panel-work, and is curved across the face of the handle from side to side. Above this is another curved band, 0, having lozengeshaped figures. Over this band are ornamental Waved lines and configurations f, and

from these, and centrally in the face of the handle, springs the inverted frnstuin-sliaped figure h, while extending from each side of this, and with it combining to constitute the upper line or top of the handle, is the decorated band i. The end of the handle will thus conform in outline to the top line of a crown viewed in front elevation.
If desired, a spray or scroll may be placed at the end or top of the plane surface under the band 01 of the crown A.
I may use the ornamentation A with a plain handle, or with one having a different ornamentation from that now shown and described. I may also sometimes wish to change the more lines or ornamentation of the bands of A without in any degree or manner altering the essential characteristics or appearance of this, as above described.
Having thus described my invention, what I consider new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a spoon or fork handle, the crownornamentation A at its top or upper end, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a spoon ori'ork handle, the ornamentation b, c, and A, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT HART.
