UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
WVILLIAM BURROW S, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO J. L. MOTT IRON WORKS, OF NElV YORK, N. Y.
DESI GN FOR STOVES AND RANGES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,549, dated March 26, 1878 application filed January 3, 1878.
[Term of patent 14 years] To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM BURRows, of Brooklyn, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Stoves and Ranges, of which the following is a specification:
My design for stoves and ranges is fully illustrated in the accompanying photographic illustration and drawings, to which reference is made, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a range of my design. Fig. 2 is a section of the front side. Fig. 3 is a section of the left-hand side.
The sectional configuration of the base portion comprises the inclined flange a, flat ledge b, sloping ledge c, and the oval rib d, and is the same for the front, Fig. 2, side, Fig. 3, and back, Fig. 4.. 1n the front section, Fig. 2, an outwardlyprojecting plate, 0, joins onto the top of the base over the rib d, which connects, by a plate, f, with the more vertical but slightly forwardprojecting plate 9, which joins, by the offset h, with the vertical plate i.
The panel in the door has a ribbed margin, 9, which closes against the plate i, and above the panel this plate 1' joins the receding plate g, corresponding to the plate 9 below the panel. At the upper edge of y it joins, by the offset l, with the backwardly-sloping plate 6, from which the vertical section m, surmounted by the inwardly-curved section 01, extends to the partition-plate 0. The partition-plate has a flange, a, ledge I), sloping ledge c, and oval rib d, the same as at the bottom, and the side section, Fig. 3, and back section, Fig. 4, have the same configuration at the junction with said partition-plate 0. Above the rib d, at the dividingplate o, the plate h rises vertically to a forward projection, g, which joins by a vertical offset, r, and sloping section t of the doorplate a, in which is a rib, o, and curve w.
The doorplate joins at the top, by the curve .10, with the sloping ledge y, which joins the vertical plate 2, from which the curved plate a projects forwardly by the part b. The plate a has a vertical upper edge, 0 which joins the top plate d, and has a rib, c, which meets the rib f of the top plate. The top plate d has a flange, a, and a ledge, 11, similar and the same as in the side section, Fig. 3.
In the side section, Fig. 3, the plate h rises vertically from the rib d to the middle plate 0. The door has the beveled edges i, which shut against the plate h and join, by the ledges j, with the outwardlydnclined section M, which has a recessed middle portion, Z. Above the middle plate 0 the plate h projects prominently forward by the section m, and thence extends directly upward by the section n, having the draft-openings, to the opening for the door, above which it is recessed inward at 0 below the opening for the small doors p, and above these it has the outward projection q, from which the vertical part r rises to the top plate.
The main doors in the side section, Fig. 3, have the bevel-flange t, recessed middle portion a, and at the top the flange connects with the middle portion by the bevel part c and ledge w.
The ornamentation consists of the polished cylindrical columns A at the angles, and also supporting the upper heating-closet; also, the conical fluted, ribbed, and beaded columns B at the angles of the lower section of the front; also, the zigzag or angular plain rib D, with the corner figures E and the figures F G in the angles of said rib on the margins of the doors in the front; also, the figures L and points M in the borders, and the middle bead N and the monograms S L in the small doors of the front; also, the square 0, with the corner figures P and side figures Q in the front plate of the water-tank; also, the tracery R and the figures S on the bracket under the water-tank.
The elevated portion is ornamented with the border figures a and b and the center figures c on the doors.
The base of the pipe is figured with the ornamental design 7?, above which are the diamond-shaped figures 77, scroll-band j, and the pointed, dotted, and scroll-band k Between the brackets and the columns are the rustic braces W.
I claim as my design for stoves and ranges-- 1. In a design for stoves and ranges, the configuration of the front, as described, and represented in Fig. 2.
2. The configuration of the side, as represented in Fig. 3.
3. The configuration of the back, as represented in Fig. 4.
4. The corners and the elevated portion, ornamented with the plain cylindrical and polished columns A, as described and shown.
5. The corners of the base, ornamented with the conical, fluted, ribbed, and headed columns B, as described and shown.
6. The large front doors, ornamented with the plain angle-ribs D, corner figures E, and the figures F G in the angles of said ribs, as described and shown.
7. The small doors of the front, ornamented with the figures L and points M on the borders, and the middle bead N and the monogram S L, as described and shown.
8. The front plate of the water-tank, ornamented with the square rib 0, corner figures P, and side figures Q, as described and shown.
9. The bracket under the water-tank, ornamented with the tracery R and the figure S, as described and shown.
10. The doors of the elevated closet, ornamented with the border figures a and b and the center figures c, as described' and shown.
11. The under side of the elevated closet, ornamented with the rustic braces m as described and shown.
12. The pipe ornamented with the figures 7L2, diamond figures i scroll band j and the pointed, dotted, and scroll-band W, as described and shown.
