IPERRY G. GIDDENS, OF HARISFIELD, GEORGIA.
BACK-BAND AND TRACE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed .Tune 4,
To all whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, PERRY G. GmDnNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartsfield, in the county of Colquitt and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Back-Band and Trace Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in back band and trace holders, and the invention has for its object, a simple, and durable device of this character which will effectively prevent the swinging of the trace and which will hold the line in a position to prevent it from sagging and catching upon the harness.
The invention consists in certain constructions, arrangements and combinations of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invent-ion, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved back band and trace holder; and, Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawing the numeral 1 designates the base plate of my improved back band and trace holder, the same being composed of sheet metal or any desired substance or material and being provided at its upper end with an outwardly and downwardly extending bracket 2 in which a roller 3 is journaled, one trunnion of the roller being mounted in the bracket and the other in the base plate as clearly illustrated in the drawing. Below the roller 3 the base plate 1 is formed with a laterally extending slot 4 and below said slot at the ends thereof with two oppositely and outwardly facing sockets 5. A clam 6 is provided with int-urned extremities g fitting in the sockets 5, by which means the clamp is arranged to swing over the outer face of the base plate to and from the slot 4 with which it substantially coincides. The main portion of the clamp 6 is waved or corrugated as indicated at 8. Preferably the entire clamp is formed of a single strip of suitably stiff wire bent into the required shape. Below I the slot 4 is a snap hook 9 which may be secured to the base plate 1 in any desired way as by turning out a portion of the metal with which the base plate is formed around the loop of the snap hook.
In the practical use of my improved back band and trace holder, the back band is passed through the slot 4 from back to front and is then passed over the corrugated clamping bar 6, the end of the back band being then returned through the slot to the rear face of the base plate. By this means, it is very evident that the base plate may be very easily and detachab-ly secured to the back band, the trace chain is passed through the snap hook 9, and the rein line or plow line is passed through the bracket 2 over the anti-friction roller 3 whereby said line will be protected from undue friction and likewise prevented from sagging, and becoming entangled with the other portions of the harness.
It will be noted that the clamping bar 6 is so disposed with respect to the slot 4 that the corrugations of said bar overlap the upper longitudinal edge of the slot but are spaced from the lower longitudinal edge thereof so that when the back band is passed through the slot and a downward pull exerted thereon, a double gripping action is obtained. It will also be noted that the hook 9 is attached to the base plate between the sockets 5, thereby reinforcing the plate and preventing twisting thereof at the point of attachment of said hook.
From the foregoing description in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be seen that I have provided a very simple, and durable construction of back band and trace holder the parts of which may be very cheaply manufactured and easily assembled, and which will be durable and effective in holding the line and trace in their proper relative positions.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A combined back band and trace holder including a base plate having a transverse slot formed therein, and provided with spaced sockets arranged on one side of the plate beneath said slot and opening toward the adjacent vertical edges of the plate, a trace supporting hook carried by the plate and a clamping bar pivotally mounted in the sockets and having its intermediate portion corrugated, the corrugations of said bar overlapping the upper longitudinal edge of portion corrugated, said corrugations being the slot and terminating short of the lower disposed in a vertical plane and having their longitudinal edge thereof.
2. A combined back band and trace holder including a base plate having its intermediate portion formed with a transverse slot, there being spaced sockets on the base plate beneath said slot and opening toward the adjacent vertical edges of the plate, a hook secured to said plate at a point between the sockets, and a clamping bar having its opposite ends bent to form terminal fingers seated in said sockets, and its intermediate portions overlapping the upper 1011- of the slot and their lower portions spaced from the lower longitudinal edge of said slot.
upper gitudinal edge In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
