BACK-BAND HOOK AND LINE-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,538I dated November 22, 1887.

To all whom it may concern.:

Be it known that I, LUKE SPIVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dixon, in the county of Neshoba and State of Mississippi,

have invented a new and useful Improvement in Back-Band Hooks and Line-Holders, of which the followingis a specification.

My invention relates to an improved backband hook and line-holder; and it consists in a certain novel construction and arrangement of parts for service, fully set forth hereinafter, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings hereto annexed, Figure lis a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section thereof. y

Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the body of the hook, comprising a flat plate of metal having the upper and lower ends curved or bent to form hooks or loops B C, respectively; and D is a transverse slot or opening in the said plate near the central point, having the rod or bar Esecured therein, around which is passed the baclrband F, and held securely in place by the points or serrations E' on the upper edge of the said slot, adapted to engage in the said band.

G represents a hook placed in the lower loop, C, adapted to engage in a link of the tracechain; and H is a pulley or roller having a grooved peripheryjournaled betweentheplate, near the upper end, and the outer end of the loop or hook B, the function of which pulley is to guide the motion of the plow-lines while driving. It will be seen that as the line is `passed over the said pulley, Within the hook,

as shown in the drawings, it is impossible for the same to become detached, and therefore there is no danger of the lincs becoming entangled with the trace-chains or other parts of the harness.

being very simple there is no chance of the same becoming broken or damaged.

Having now described my invention, I claim-- 1. In a back-band, the combination of the plate having the hooks B O at the upper and lower ends, hook or stud G in the lower loop,

and the pulley or roller H, journaled in the upper hook, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination of the plate having the trace holder or hook thereon, transverse slot D in the said plate, the rod E therein, and the points or serrat-ionsE in the said slot, with the back-band adapted to pass through the said slot and around the rod E therein and be en gaged by the said points, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The plate havingthe hooks B C at the upper and lower ends, the hook or stud G on the lower hook, C, the pulley or roller H,jour naled in the upper hook, B, the slot D in the plate, the rod E in the slot, and the points E', as set forth.
