DRAWERS.
- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 29, 1908.
Application filed September 26, 1905, Serial No. 280,219. Renewed March 24, 1908. Serial N 0. 422,962.
1n the county of Dallas and State of Ala bama, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Drawers, 'of which the fol lowing is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in drawers and hasfor its object to provide a pair of drawers which are so constructed that the strain on the drawers is relieved by the insertion of a piece of elastic fabric at the points subject to the greatest strain.
Another object of my invention is to provide a pair of drawers with diamond shaped pieces of elastic fabric inserted at the'knees and seat, which I have found can be used with the best advantages.
A further object of my invention is to provide a pair of drawers which are very simple and cheap in construction and ones in which the elastic fabric can be easily inserted.
With these objects in view my invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view-of my improved drawers, Fig. 2 is a rear view of my improved drawers, Fig. 3 is a side view of my improved drawers, Fig. 4 is a plan view of the elastic knee piece. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the elastic seat piece.
Referring to the drawings A indicates. my
improved drawers which are made out of non-elastic fabric like the ordinary drawers, but are provided with a cut-out portion at the knees and seat in which elastic pieces are adapted to be seamed. The cut-out portions at the knees are diamond shaped and extend from the inner seam across to the outer seam and a diamond shaped piece of 'elastic fabric B, is inserted and securely stitched in.
I am aware that it is not new to insert elastic fabric at the knee but have found that diamond shaped pieces of elastic fabric inserted at the knee have great advantages over the strips as'the strain is more evenly distributed and is not brought to bear at one point as is the case with the strip now in use. The cut out portion of the seat is also diamond shaped and extends around to the outside seam of each leg. A bifurcated diamond shaped piece of elastic fabric 0, is securely stitched in the out out portion forming the seat of the drawers, and it can be readily seen that the strain will be more evenly distributed when the user is sitting down as the elastic fabric will give lengthwise when it is most needed. v
From the foregoing description it will be seen that by providing a pair of drawers with diamond shaped pieces of elastic fabric at the knee and seat I overcome the difliculties that exist and at the same time I do not increase the expense of the article.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A pair of drawers composed of non-elastic material, a diamond shaped piece of elastic fabric inserted in the knee portion of each leg having its horizontal points ending at the side seams and its vertical points ending centrally of the front portion of the drawers above and below the knees, and a bifurcated diamond shaped piece of elastic fabric in serted in the seat having its horizontal points ending at the side seams, as set forth.
