UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HENRY M. WILLIAMS, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- FOURTH TO FRANZ BURGER, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA.
VBLANKET-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 708,109, dated September 2, 1902.
Application filed January Z7, 1900. Renewed January 31, 1902. Serial No. 92,072. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY M. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blanket Guards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object to prevent the contact of the upper portion of a blanket with the occupant of a bed or couch; and my invention consists of a guard consisting of a flexible sheet folded over the edge of the blanket with means for connecting the same thereto, as fully set forth hereinafter andas illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a blanket with my guard attached; Fig. 2, a view illustrating the means for connecting the blanket to the guard; Fig. 3, a sectional View illustrating another means of connection.
The blanket vA is of usual character and is not altered in any respect, except so far 'as it may be provided with attaching means,'as described hereinafter.
The guard B consists of a sheet of linen or other suitable material, which is folded around the blanket, so that it is frequently brought in contact with the person sleeping.
The guard B may be of any suitable form and secured in any suitable manner. One means'is to provide it with buttons a at the inner side of the under portion, with buttonholes b at the upper portion, and to slit the blanket for the passage of these buttons, which are also passed through the buttonholes in the upper portion, as shown in Fig.
1. Another means is to provide the blanket with eyelets e, arranged in pairs, to receive a cord, which is also passed through corresponding eyelets in the under and upper portions of the guard, as shown in Fig. 2. Another arrangement consists in forming buttonholes at the upper and lower portion of the guard and passing studs f through the same, as shown in Fig. 3.
Withoutlimiting myself to the precise construction and arrangement of the guard, I claim- The combination with a blanket, of a guard consisting of a sheet of linen or analogous material folded over one edge of the blanket to prevent contact of the latter with the face of the user, and means for detachably connecting both folding portions of the guard to the blanket, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY M. WILLIAMS.
