DRESS-SHIELD.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, VIOLET G. ALEXANDER,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Charlotte, in the county of Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Im rovements in Dress-Shields, of which the f0 lowing 1s a specification.

This invention relates to dress shields and the object of the invention is to provide a convenient, practical, reliable and easily manipulated fastening device for securing a dress shield in position in the arm-hole of a garment, the said fastening device being wholly carried by the dress-shield and, when the dress shield is in place, taking up practically no space and aflording no discomfort to the wearer.

With the above general object in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts here inafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a dress-shield showing the improved fastening device applied thereto. Flg. 2 is a cross-section on the line 22 of Fig. 1 taken in line with one of the fasteners.

The dress-shield shown at 1 may be of any usual or preferred construction comprising the outer and inner shield members or body and arm fla s connected along their upper edges by a f0 ding line described on a suitable arc, as usual.

In carrying out the resent invention, one of the fia s is provided in the opposite upper corners t iereof with eyelets 2 and these eyelets are preferably formed of metal so as to give the requisite life and durability to the fastening device. These eyelets may be secured to either side of the flap in connection with which they are used or secured between the plies thereof or otherwise covered and protected, as may be found desirable. The other flap is rovided with clench pins 3 or pins compose of soft, pliable metal and these pins are permanenty fastened to or connected with the flap in connection with which they are used. This may be done by providing each of the ins with an enlarged flat head 4 which may be secured in any convenient manner either to the outer surface of the flap or between the plies thereof as may be found expedient.

In applying the dress-shield, the clench pins are inserted through the seam adjacent to the arm-hole of the garment and also through the eyelets 2 and are then clenched by bending the same flatwise against the adjacent surface of the flap which carries the eyelets, in the manner shown in Fig. 1 and indicated in Fig. 2, in which latter figure the clench pins are shown as partially bent.

The herein described dress shield comprising arm flaps, one of said flaps at its upper corners being provided with eyelets, and clench pins of flexible metal provided with flat heads secured to the other flap of the shield in line with the eyelets, said pins being inserted through the eyelets and clenched behind the same, essentially as described.
