APPLICATION FILED APR. 10. 1920.

UNITED STATES WALTER HUGH SMITH, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA.
CUFF-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 7, 1920.
Application filed April 10, 1920. Serial N0. 372,828.
To all whom it may comer-n Be'it known that I, lVAL'rnn H. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma City, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gulf- Buttons; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to cuff buttons and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a cuff button of simple and durable form adapted to be easily and quickly applied to the cuff by being inserted through the buttonholes thereof and when in position will effectually hold the edge portions of the cuff with respect to each other.
W ith this object in view the button comprises a shank which is ogeed shaped in side elevation, and having a head attached to one end, an arrowhead shaped portion is fastened at the opposite end of the shank and is used for directing the shank through the buttonholes when the button is applied to the cuff.
In the accompanying drawing z- Figure 1 is a plan view of the end button.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
The cuff button comprises a shank l which is ogeed shaped in side elevation. A head 2 is integrally joined with one end of the shank 1 and the head may be in the form of a heart or any other suitable design. An arrowhead shaped portion 3 is formed at the opposite end of the shank and integral therewith, and the portion 3 is provided at its side edges with barbs i which extend along the intermediate portion of the shank.
The inner edges 5 of the barbs 4 are straight and are disposed at acute angles to the adjacent edges of'the shank 1.
When it is desired to apply the cuff button to the cuff, the edge portions of the cuff are overlapped whereby the buttonholes are brought in alinement with each other. One of the barbs 4 of the portion 3 is inserted through the alined buttonholes and by using the shank 1 the portion 4 is turned whereby 1t is projected through the buttonholes and the edges of the buttonholes move along the straight edges 5 of that barb which is inserted through the buttonholes. Thus the portion a is projected through the buttonholes and the shank l is also carried through the holes. Thus the head 2 is positioned at the outer side of the cuff while the portion 3 is positioned at the inner side of the cufi and the edge portions of the cuff are secured together. Inasmuch as the shank l is ogeed shaped, the parts 2 and 3 will lie close or flat against the adjacent portions of the cuff when the device is applied. To remove the button from the cuff the operation hereinbefore described is reversed.
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying draw ings it will be seen that a cuff button of simple form is provided and that the same when applied will effectually hold the edge portions of a cuff in proper position with relation to each other.
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
1. A cuff button comprising a shank which is ogeed shaped in side elevation, a head provided at .one end the shank, an arrowhead shaped portion provided at the opposite end of the shank, said arrowhead shaped portion having barbs extending along the intermediate portion of the shank.
2. A cuff button comprising a shank which is ogeed shaped in side elevation and having a head mounted at one end thereof, an arrowhead shaped portion mounted at the opposite end of the shank, said arrowhead shaped portion having barbs which eX- tend along the intermediate portion of the shank, the barbs being provided with inner straight edges which are disposed at an acute angle with relation to the adjacent longitudinal edges of the shank.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of witnesses:
