EDMUND N; MALVERN AND WILLIAM W. JONES, OF MARYVILLE, MISSOURI.
SACK-I-IANDLE.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, EDMUND N. MAL- vnnN and WILLIAM l/V. JONES, both citizens of the United` States, and residents of Maryville, in the county ofNodaway and `State of Missouri, have invented a new andV Improved Sack-Handle, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.
Our invention has for its object to provide a sack handle by means of which ceacters denote similar parts in all the views, in which f f Figure l is a `view showing in elevation a sack provided with our handles, part of the sack being broken away to illustrate the construction; and
Fig. 2 `is a fragmentary view illustrating a `portion of a sack with its neck open and with the handle in place.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that a sack 5 may be woven in tubular forni, and, having been cut of the proper length, its ends 6 may be hemmed. The handles which we propose to use and which are shown in the drawings, are constructed with Shanks 7 having enlarged ends 8, the
handles resembling spools in general ap- Speccation of Letters Patent. Patented Aug, 21, 1917,

pearance. One of these handles is disposed at each neck 9 of the sack, and the handle may be secured in this position by means of a staple or other member 10, which is driven through the neck of the sack and into the shank 7 of the handle. By this means the handles are secured to the sack, so that they will not be lost when the necks of the sack are opened. The necks are normally closed by means of a wire 11 which is. disposed around each neck of the sack, with its ends l bent around each other, so that the neck of the sack will be pressed against the shank 7 of the handle.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an article of the class described, a sack in tubular form, two handles, one disposed in each end of the sack, and flexible means disposed around the ends of the sack for pressing the ends of the sack against the handles.
2. In an article of the class described, a sack having open ends and provided with a handle permanently secured to the inner face of each end, and about which the end is gathered with a portion of the handle projecting beyond the said end, and fasten ing means for securing the gathered ends of the sack upon'the handles.
