Be it known that I, FEDER J. KJELDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at I-Iendricks, in the county of Lincoln and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an improved buckle especially adapted for use on harnesses, and to this end, it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings,-Figure l is a plan view of the improved buckle having attached thereto, portions of a pair of straps; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on the line m2 m2 of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line x3 m3 of Fig. l.

The numeral l indicates an annular body member having integrally formed therewith, at their ends, a pair of fiat bars 2. These bars 2 are placed back to back and spaced apart, one on each side of the aXis of the body member l, a distance sutlicient to permit the straps, connected by the improved buckle, to be placed flatwise therebetween. A flat bearing plate 3, extended in a plane below the bottom of the body member l, is integrally formed, at its sides, with the lower edges of the bars '2 and ties said bars together. At its ends, the bearing plate 8 terminates short of the body member lto afford a pair of

5 and 6. The rear edge portion of the bearing plate 3, adjacent to the strap passage 6, is turned laterally upward to aord a stop shoulder 7. Integrally formed, or otherwise secured, to the upper face of the bearing plate 3, is an upwardly projecting lock pin 8 located intermediately between the bars 2, and at a point back of the front edge of said bearing plate.

In the drawings, the improved buckle is shown as connecting the rear end of an inner or short line a of a harness, to the intermediate portion of the long or outer line b, at a point to the rear of the terrets of the harness. As shown in Figs. l and 2, the rear end portion of the line a is passed through the strap passage 5 and is provided with a punched hole 9 through which the stop pin 8 projects. The extreme rear end of t-he line a abuts against the stop shoulder 7. The line b is passed through both

5 and 6 and rests upon the connected end of the strap a and the upper edge of the stop shoulder 7. This line b is provided with a multiplicity of longitudinally spaced punched holes l0, through any one of which, the lock pin 8 can be passed for adjustably securing said strap to the buckle and in respect to the line a.

The body member l is made annular for the purpose of prevent-ing the improved buckle from catching in the fly net or blanket, thereby tearing the same, or catching in the buckle. In actual practice, the body member will be of such size as to prevent the same from being pulled through the terrets on the harness and catching on the opposite side thereof, thereby rendering the attached lines useless.

TWhat I claim is A buckle comprising an annular body member, a flat bearing plate located in a plane below said body member and having upturned side flanges anchored, at their ends, to said body.member, said bearing plate terminating short of the ends of its side flanges to afford strap passages, and a lock pin and a stop extension on said bearing plate, said stop extension projecting into the plane of said body member, substantially as described.
