To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PETER RASMUSSEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Eustis, in the county of Frontier and State of Nebraska, haveiinvented new and useful Improvements in Harness-Bus kles, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in harness buckles and has particular application to a bridle buckle for connecting the crown strap, forehead band, cheek strap and throat latch.

In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a buckle of the class described whereby the crown piece, the forehead band, cheek strap and the throat latch may be connected to one another Without mutilating and weakening any one of the straps and which will carry the rosette.

It is also my purpose to improve and simplify the general construction of buckles of the class described and to provide a buckle which may be manufactured, and marketed at a minimum expense and which will hold the straps securely connected to one another.

With the above and other objects in view, the .invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.

In the accompanying drawing; Figure l is a bottom plan view of a buckle constructed in accordance with the present invention showing the ends of the various straps connected thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the buckle removed from the strap. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the buckle and rosette. Fig. 4 is a cross sec tional view through the buckle and rosette.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively designate the crown piece, forehead band, cheek strap and throat latch, and 5 indicates my improved buckle as an entirety that connects the adjacent ends of the crown piece, forehead band, cheek strap and throat latch to one another.

This buckle 5 comprises a substantially U- shaped frame 6 having the outer extremities of the limbs thereof inter-connected by means of a cross bar 7 upon which is pivoted one or more tongues 8 that are capable of movement to open and closed positions and are designed to bear against the interconnecting member of the frame. be securely and effectively Patented Aug. 3, 1915 frame at the junction of such limbs with the cross bar is a s ubstantially U-shaped yoke 9 and formed integral with one limb of the yoke 9 is a loop 10 with which is connected .the adj acentend of-thethroat latch 1, while formed integral with the other limb of the yoke 9 is a'loop 11 with. which is connected the adjacent end of the forehead band 2. The loop 10 is arranged at such an angle to the yoke 9 as to accommodate the inclination of the throat latch while the loop 11 is so arranged upon the yoke as to accommodate the forehead band and hold the latter in a substantially horizontal position. The central portion of the yoke 9, that is the portion between the loops 10 and 11, is connected with the adjacent end of the cheek strap 3, while the adjacent end of the crown piece 1 is passed through the frame 6 of the buckle and secured to the latter through the medium of the tongue 8, the latter passing through an opening in the particular end of the crown piece to hold the buckle to the crown piece.

Formed integral with the limbs of the yoke 9 and spanning the space between such limbs is a cross bar 12 offset outwardly from the yoke and formed with an elongated slot 13. This cross bar 12 overlies the free end of the crown piece. 14 designates a rosette of any suitable construction. Connected to the under surface of the metal disk of the rosette and projecting through a slot in the leather portion thereof is a U-shaped wire 15. This U-shaped wire is passed through the slot 13 in the cross bar 12 and encircles the free end of the crown piece, as clearly illustrated in the drawing. Thus, the free end of the crown piece is held against accl dental disconnection from the buckle and serves to hold the rosette upon the buckle. From the foregoing; description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction and manner of employing my improved bridle buckle will be readily apparent.

It will be seen that I have provided a bridle buckle whereby the crown piece, forehead band, cheek strap and throat latch may fastened to one another and the rosette secured in place.

A bridle buckle of theclass described comprising a frame, a cross bar carried by said frame, a tongue on said cross bar, a yoke secured to said frame at the junction of the formed on the remaining end of said yoke to receive one end ofthe forehead band,vthe

arrangement being such that one end of the cheek strap of the bridle may be secured to said yoke between saidloops; a cross bar secured to said yoke and offset outwardly therefrom and spanning the yoke and formed with an elongated slot; said cross a loop formed on one limb ofsaid' yoke ,to receive the throat latch, a loop;

bar arranged to overlie the free end of said crown piece, a rosette, and a U-shaped wire carried by'the rosette and passed through 15 the slot in said cross bar and encircling the free end of the crown piece.
