To all whom it may concern Be it. known that I, GEORGE R. NETTLETON, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in

This invention relates to an improvement in buckles, and while adapted for various purposes, is especially designed for use in connection with belts on harvesters, the object of the invention being to produce a buckle which is, in a sense, so flexible that it will readily yield to the various positions of the strap or web with which it is connected; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and par- .edge of the plate and so as to co-act with the teeth thereon to grip a web 13. on opposite sides limit the upward movement of the bar and prevent the forward edge of the bar passing over the gripping edge. The bars 8, 9, are parallel and together form a bar to which the fixed end 15 of the web or strap is attached. The rear bar 14 of the loop 10 projects for a considerable extent beyond and above the rear edge of the frame plate and forms a tuck loop for the free end of the strap, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings. By loosely pivoting the loops in the frame they may swing with relation thereto so as to respond to the various lines of draft placed upon the strap, at the same time forming a tight grip'upon the free end of the strap, and because the point of fixed attachmentis so close to the gripping point the fixed buckle will readily adjust itself and permit thestrap or web topass over rollers.

I claim:

1. A buckle comprising a frame plate, a forward loop and a tuck loop, said frame formed on opposite sides with downwardly extending perforated ears in which the loops are mounted, means below the frame plate to which the strap may be connected, the tuck loop projecting beyond and adapted to extend above the rear edge of the plate.

2. A buckle comprising a frame plate, a forward loop and a tuck loop, said plate formed on opposite sides with outwardly extending wings adapted to'bear upon the sides of the forward loop, said plate also formed on opposite sides with downwardly extending perforated ears through which the adjacent bars of the loops pass, said adjacent bars forming a strap-attaching bar, the forward loop adapted to co-act with the loop projecting beyond and adapted to extend above the rear edge of the plate.
