To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS W. IVRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

This invention relates to an improvement in buckles of the type known as slide buckles, and particularly for buckles for use on book straps, skate straps or Yany other purposes for which a buckle `may be used, the object of the invention being a simple arrangement of parts in which the frame may be cast and the slide struck up from sheet metal, and a buckle complete in two parts; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a frame comprising side bars 2, 3, front bar 4 and rear bar 5, which rear bar, if desired, may be raised above the plane of the front bar to form a tuck loop. As clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the central portion of the under face of the front bar 4 is thickened to form a support 6 for the purpose as will hereinafter appear. The sides of the frame are connected near their rear end by a strap bar 7 and by what I will term a lower bar 8 and upper bar'9. The plane of the upper face of the lower bar 8 is slightly below the lower face of the upper bar 9 so that a slide 10 may pass between them. This slide is struck up from sheet metal and is formed at its outer end with ears 11 which not only form stops to limit the movement of the slide but which provide suiiicient width of material to form the transverse slot 12. The outer end or bar 13 of the slide is bowed corresponding to the under face of the bar 4 of the frame and so as to tit against it as shown in Fig. 2. It is desirable that theouter end of the slide be bent to provide a bearing for the strap and the central portion of the under face of the bar 4 is thickened to form a support for this bowed portion of the slide so as to prevent the possibility of the slide becoming flattened. The slide is passed from front to rear over the lower bar 8 and beneath the upper bar 9, and the rear end or tail 14 of the slide is turned at right angles upward in rear of the upper bar 9. This bend may be made before the slide is inserted and sufficient space arranged between the upper face of the bar 8 and the lower face of the bar 9 to permit this tail to pass between them,

Instead of providing a strap bar 7 the strap may be connected to the rear bar of the frame.
In use one end 17 of the stra-p is secured to the strap bar 7 or to the rear bar 5 of the frame, while the free end 18 is passed upward through the slot 12 in the slide and in rear of the frontbar 4. Tension being applied to the strap will force the slide forward and the strap will be engaged between the rear wall of the slot 12 and the edge of the bar 4.
