ALBERT S. REIFSNYDER, 0F READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
CARRYING DEVICE.
Application filed. January 22, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT S. REIFSNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carrying Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices for use in carrying melons, pumpkins, and vegetables of like character and consists in the provision of a handle with suitable straps extending from the opposite ends of the handle and adapted to embrace the melon or other like object, the free ends of the straps being provided with means for engagement with the melon.
To this end and to such others as the invention may pertain, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and adaptation of parts, all as will be more fully hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a melon with my carrying device attached thereto, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail in perspective of one end of the carrying strap showing the metallic hook for engagement with the melon.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings, 1 represents a melon, and 2 Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 3,760.
a carrying handle which is provided with a longitudinal opening through which straps 3, 3 are passed. lhe ends of the straps are provided with gripping attachments 4, the body portions of which are substantially rectangular in form, each of which is made of a single piece of wire, the free ends being extended at right angles to the body portion and pointed as at 5 to engage a melon or other object to be raised. The ends of the straps are secured to said metallic portions by folding over the upper portions and back upon themselves and are each held in place by any suitable securing means, as for instance by a metallic strip 6 clamped over the same. To prevent the spreading of the side walls of the wire member 4, a suitable metallic brace plate 7, the ends of which engage the opposite sides of the device, is employed.
From the foregoing description, the use of the device will be readily understood. The melon or other object to be carried is engaged by the inwardly extending ends 5 of the wire section 4:, the engagement being upon opposite sides of the melon which can be readily carried by the handle 12.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A carrying device comprising a handle and straps fastened thereto, U-shaped wires secured to one end of each strap and each provided with ends which project at right angles thereto, and a plate, for each wire member, having eyes at the ends thereof connecting the arms of said member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto itlllX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT S. REIFSNYDER.
